Changing cams

Right, now I've got in my head whats what, I just need to ask a couple of questions.

1/ When taking off the cam housing do I also need to take off the head and replace the gasket?

2/ Is it necessary to replace the hydraulic lifters?

3/ Do I have to replace the oil seal at the end of the cam housing?

4/ What type of lubricant do I need to use on the camshaft bearings and oil seal lip when replacing the camshaft?

if you undo the head bolts to take off the cam casing i would change the head gasket as well but its upto you. you do know you dont have to take the cam casing off to change the cam dont you ?? and yes replace the oil seal

Coulda done with knowing that a coupla weeks ago. Woulda saved me 20 notes on headset and bolts!

Personally I didnt think there was enough room but if Burgo says you can do it then you can. (He's not that stupid.......... apparently :D )

to do it without removing the head is fiddly and u need the right tools

and if u undo the head bolts u really should replace the gasket - it MIGHT work but if it doesnt uve just wasted another ?10 on head bolts
