I am currently running on the rather crap Nova standard radio/speaker system but am looking to upgrade it to a decent cd/speaker system.

I have just got myself a parcel shelf with 2 holes cut out for 6x9 speakers and looking at other posts my choices have come to the Infinity speakers and the Alpine SPS690A, both at around ?50 (apart from halfords where they are ?100???????) Any good/bad reports on these speakers, or can anyone advise on a better buy??

Also I am looking to get an Alpine head unit, a mid range one about ?140 that will play mp3s. Anyone had any bad experiences with this or are they pretty safe?

Finally, I will be looking at putting new speaker wire into the back speakers, but i dont know where the wires run from the head unit to the back. Is it across the roof or the floor, and how easy are they to replace?

Thanks

Both are good speakers, in my experience the Infinities will be a bit more robust at loud volume, but the Alpines will give more bass lower down the volume.

Halfrauds prices are usually about double everyone elses... If its the Infinity Reference 9603i 6x9s you're thinking of, Bassjunkies (http://www.bassjunkies.com) have them for ?40 a pair.

?140 should get you a decent MP3 cd player - This link (http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/catsearch.php?subtype=MP3&start=0&limit=40) will take you to In Car Express's selection of <?200 MP3 players. Also worth checking Bassjunkies (http://www.bassjunkies.com) and CAS (http://www.caraudiosecurity.com).

As for the speaker wire, it should follow along the bottom of the doors. Unscrew the plastic door trim and you should see a cable duct going along - can't remember which side it is though....

I have the infinities on my shelf and have just amped them with a toxic 1000 watt amp and i have an alpine mp3 player which came from america, this setup kicks ass. I dont know what the alpine 6x9s are like but the infitities are hard to beat, some one asked me the other day 'what sub have you got in there?!' lol. i havent got a sub, i have sound deadened all of the boot and the infitities produce sum major bass and for ?40-50 how can u go wrong?
The wires for the speakers shoud be both sides of the boot behind the plastic parts that you sit the shelf on, i have found the wires running acrross the car floor aswell when i lifted up the carpet.

i got a alpine head unit, paid 150 for its has 3 pre outs 50x4 and a few other things like 1 set of pre outs for a sub that then has a control for it im happy with them.

also just got a pair of 6x9's alpine speakers on the stearo they sound good sound, they sounds better than when me mate had them but he was running them on a panasonic head unit but i dont really know if that mnade a difference.

hope that helps :D

I have got one of the old Alpine headunits its not mp3 but it's 3 pre-outs rated at 4v and also 4x60 watts per channel and ive seen them for sale for 140 quid if u can live with out mp3.
I also run 4x infinity 6x9 and the sound quality is amazing for the fact they are budget speakers, I would recommend them to anyone and for the price there isnt much better.
As for wiring u run it behind the dashboard shelves then behind the footwell panels then run them under the plastic trim panel.

I have got one of the old Alpine headunits
I also run 4x infinity 6x9.

In what? Your bedroom? Didnt think you had a car!

Mp3 units are definately the way to go (although I've got a 12 cd stack)and you can pick them up cheap enough.

I have got nothing but Infinities for my Nova (13cm 2-way, 17cm comps and 2x 12". Reference series for now) and after running them up this afternoon am well impressed.
