After i got in today i thought it was best i pulled my finger out and made a start,as the whether is nicer and the night are lighter.

first up was to bleed the coolent out,and then try trial fitting some pipes, and guess what i needded to trim some :?

So affter triming a few down and adjusting there kinda ok..

Well as it got a bit closer to night fall,i though i best start paking up,and though i can just get the stat changed in time,so i did

Will get more done tomo..

Bit of gap in there now

Nice new Cool runing stat..

http://img122.exs.cx/img122/5393/statedit6sg.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

The rad hose that joins the stat is a bit of a ass to fit,but i think it will just be ok

Well all i can say is the buggers are harder to fit then you would think,(also i had to cut some of them down to fit into my gaps sizing,as there made biger i guess for that reason not every convertions the same)mainly due to space really, the matrix return pipe was the worst,as it touches the inlet manifold, but i have used some pipe to try stop the rubbing for now, will be fine once i get the TB's..

http://img82.exs.cx/img82/7582/picture3790ud.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

This was alos very hard to fit,as it seams to be slightly short, and as they are quite thik, makes harder to bend,etc..wont know if it works till i get all the coolent back in..

http://img106.exs.cx/img106/413/picture3868zy.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

This is the ass that keeps giving me trouble,it was quite corroded in the astra, and has made life hard ever since, but i think i shell be ok for a bit as ive sleaved it and smoothed the sharpness away, will be better once the race heads on..

Will post up more tomorrow..

a little tip for you with that rear heater matrix pipe,

Get yourself doen the plumbers and get a 15mm (i think) pre soldered 90 degree bend with another inch or two of pipe, you'll need to maybe remove the heater matrix and file down the pipe that comes out by the inlet manifold as I think its a different size to normal plumbing attachments but it can be done, the copper pipe can then be angled towards where you like keeping it tight to the bulkhead, thsi gives a lot more clearance for the inlet manifold and stops the pipe being crushed when the engine rocks back, this is how mine is done and there is no way it will ever cut through the pipe like I have seen happen on many xe novas, the samcos make it worse when you leave them standard as the samco is thicker and means u have already squashed it onto heater matrix and between the manifold, it will either damage the end of the heater matrix if u leave it how it is or maybe split the pipe, It only takes abit of patience to sort it properly and once done you'll never have the problem again.

We actually sweated teh 90 degree bend on the heater matrix out of the car and then re fitted it but trust me this a nigthmare to do and using pre soldered joints makes life easier and it worked sweet on my LET nova

hope that helps, the hoses are looking good though, pukka stuff

fooking good idea! humm but you know it took me about an hour and 10 mins to fit that fooker.. :?

ah well i might go look in home base,as i know what you mean,if not ill ask my old man to fined one out from work, hes a joiner, and im am also, but he works at a genral builders/carpenters firm..might even get some one to sweat the bend on for me,lol,it's so anoying, though the TB's will be ok with it how it is..might just link it over to the return till then..

Here is a pic of mine, personally if I done it again I'd angle it another way but it works fine and there is loads of clearance, obviously loads at the mo as the head is off :(

Ok im a bit more sober now, lol.

So i take it you actualy take the heater out from inside the car, then brase/sweat the new pipe with the bend onto it,or are you saying to get one fitted while its all in place as it ia now? cheers.

Scott

Jonlem

The one in the pic was done with the heater matrix removed, believe it or not it does go back in but we didn't have pre soldered joints and no blow torch so we used the cooker, ideally like on my old let you can do it on the car with pre soldered joints, just make sure you cut the matrix copper back pipe enough to give plenty of clearance but not so much that its all too tight, you'll see what I'm getting at when you have a go at it, very simple but works fine and eliminates any future problems

Ok mate i will give it a go at some point, but i think it will be good for a small time, just as long as its ok this weekend im not fused,as im getting it on the rolling road for its first time..

Herer is what was done to the outlet pipe already..

Right then i got the pipes all fitted now, they are all nicly cleand up and working good9i took the car for a good thrash, first in 5 weeks)
felt mad, forgot how quick and skitish it is on damp roads

ok now i have a tep pipe with T join till i get a header made to take the small pipe,ok itsnot very nice but it works

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/3000/picture3991go.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

Bottom rad pipe is better,as it clears the clutch adjuster better, but still is very close to the chassis leg,and i had to trim it to fit..

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/2729/picture3924gg.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

another bonus was that i needed to cut the heater feed down, and the offcut is just right for my power cap pipe :P

All cleand up and off to test them(well i let it warm up and check for leack before hand)

All i need now is my TB's and the custom header tank for that small pipe, and also to paint the spark cover the same as the pipes.. :D

Well some say do that others say not to,lol

But once i get some TB's i will either block it off or get the exra pipe added to custom header tank, thanks for the idea with the bend from the heater return,i will do ti but at a later date,as i dont use the car every day i will be ok with it how it is for now,but good idea mate, cheers again.
