View Full Version : Vauxhall, or Opel?
I've noticed that loads of you in Nova land are badging your cars as Opels. Just wondering why, we badge all our Opels as Vauxhalls. Over here the Nova is a Corsa A. Doesn't sound as interesting, does it?
Opel Corsa, sounds like yer ma or your sister should be driving it instead!!
Vauxhall Nova, now that has a better ring to it!!
lol suppose its just something different mate
we are used to "vauxhall nova" so "opel corsa" is a change for us lol
and will be other wat round for you i suppose

If u badge it as a Opel Corsa and people say to u novas are shit get a corsa u can say it is a corsa u knob.
im calling mine an opel corsa from now on, its differant. and at least i wont here 'novas are s**t why have you got one' as much hopefully.
The badges are also nicer. You can get nice chrome Corsa badging; and I also prefer the Opel logo to the Vauxhall one.

ive done that a few times, thing is the thicko's ive said it too cant grasp it an cant get it into their head. Ends up them calling you a nobber anyway
my car came with opel badges on it when i bought it, but its a vauxhall on the log book
Well I'm off to my local cruise tonight and i'll bet there'll be no more than 1 Nova there, Nova's are so rare that no one has anything bad to say about them, where as lots of people hate Corsa Bs, and so the name doesn't exactly help things on a Nova!
i put a opel badge on mine but removed t'other ones

isnt it summit to do with on the continent the word no-va means doesnt go, in spanish i think. could be wrong.
either way, not a very good marketing strategy for a car, so they changed the name to corsa a

Well now in Fairness, Fords have had a few cracking motors in their day as well, The Sierra Cossie, The RS200, so fast it was banned from Ralling and ended the whole Group B Supercar Championship for good, the Fiesta (i added this cuz i've had a few and they keep going no matter how much abuse they get) and finially, the Daddy of them all, The MK2 Escort. Did you know that the MK2 is so popular that Ford have actually started a limited run of Brand new Body Shells in Sweeden? Over here some MK" rally cars are going for up and over ?25k stg!!!

Thats not strictly true...

wasnt it the lancia 037 that got banned as it killed people...then they banned group b rallyin all together!
Ford crashed an RS200 first, and killed a bunch of spectators. As a result the Ford works team then pulled out of group B but the class went on. It was a Lancia that signalled the end, by crashing an S4. Henri Toivonen flew off the road on the Tour de Course, smashed down a hillside and went up in flames - the only thing left was a rollcage and big black burnt patch on the floor! :o
The FIA had plans to replace Group B with Goup S anyway...

thanks for that as i was a bit blurred on da whole story! lol cant wait for class S!

Long wait then...
The FIA got scared after Group B so cancelled plans for Group S as well. The current WRC class is about as top as it gets really; and even they're loaded with restrictions and regulations... i think the minumum weight on a WRC car is 1280kg as well, and around 300bhp (consider that there was no weight restriction in Group B - 600Kg cars with 500Bhp+ engines....)
So, tell us more about the Group S....
I've been in a Metro 6R4 and a Peogeot 205 T16 and i swear, noting on Earth could possibly compair. The noise waill live with me til the day i die. Sitting in one of those on a stage is like sitting on a bull with no means of support running down the side of a mountain. Its unreal!!
Group S was purely for development cars; manufacturers would only have to produce 10 homologation models, so a lot of the cost restraints of normal rally cars were non-existant. BUT they would have been limited to 300bhp - still, 300bhp in a car that weighs as much as a packet of crisps would have been FAST. Could have proved to develop some interesting technology though if it had been lauched.
A lot of ex-Group B cars, mainly T16 and 6R4s, are now used in hillclimbs.
Hill climbs and Rallys over here. A guy from the North had 6r4 Running gear built into a 306 shell at one time. Subarus and Evos wouldn't have had a look in.
So are they going ahead with Group S?
there are loads of 6r4s doing rally crosses
wasnt it the lancia 037 that got banned as it killed people...then they banned group b rallyin all together!
lol the S4, combined both Superchargers and Turbo in a 1.8
And it developed nearly 470bhp (works) Which is astonishing for a 1.8 fiat twin cam.
As razorjack said is correct, the lancia Delta then had strict regulations put on it, because it won 25 world championships , and at the same time they changed drivers to someone rubbish, sadly the delta fizzled out.
The other car that was banned was the legenedary Audi Quattro.
Some machines hi!! Make the humble Novas look a bit p!ss really, but then again, they make Ferraris and Porches look p!ss as well i suppose!! If i ever decide to sell my Nova, or if i can raise enough money through the sales of Novas and Nova Parts, I'm buying a MK2 Escort, so in my opinion, Fords are alright.
So are they going ahead with Group S?
Nope; after the cancellation of Group B, Group S would never really get a look in, as at the time rallying was considered "dangerous"
....Although watch rallies such as Catalunya and Turkey and you'll wonder how spectators aren't injured now! I seem to remember Mr McRae flipping his Focus about 6 inches right over and above the head of one beamused spectator a few seasons back...

No wonder really when it has a supercharger and a turbo working side by side.
i mean having 1 is great but when u have a supercharger working to like 3000 revs then it kicks out and you turbo kicks in you can understand why it won so many championships
