A mate of mine told me his brother in law building a 16 16v head on a GTE Noa bottom end, will the 1400 head fit the 1400 sr bottom end the same way? If so, do i need any wiring or do i just stick twin 40's on it abd if so, which inlet do i need?

i'm sure the pistons are different on a 16v compaired to a 8vbut carn't see why the head wouldn't fit the bottom end as the block is vertually the same.

The head fits on, as the blocks are the same, however you'll need the pistons from a 1.4 16V and if you need a crank pick up then you also need an oil pump from a 1.4 16V botton end. the pistons on the 1400 16v have a raised centre section.

the bonus of fitting the pistons and rods from a 1.4 16V is they have a fractured face on the end caps and are much stronger than the machined flat face of the 8v rods.

basically if your going to buy all the bits then its pobably much easier to get a whole 16v engine to be honnest.

like said you do need to change the pistons which would mean at least a pain in the ass stripdown of the engine in the car. or an engine out job.

Great stuff, what about wiring it up? I know i'll still need a GTE petrol tank but will i still need the rest of the wiring or what way does it work?

Not to mention oil pump off, and re-hone as you cna't really use the rings on the other pistons.
the only reason to do it is if you are hillclimbing or sprinting then it has to be a nova block, as I found out after I had built up my current engine :x
You can get these for as little as 150-250. but then you'll be looking at carbs and ign ecu, which would bump it to nearly 1000 all running.

If you want it in and running on injection, then you'll need:
engine,
loom
ecu
key from donor car
transponder form donor car
top coolant hose
and to drill a hole by the battery to drop the ecu in to the car and wire it up.

If carbs then all you need is
carbs +manifold
coolant temp sensor
air temp sensor
crank pick up
Throttle pot
and DTA, MBE emerlad whatever to make the sparks.

yeah im thinking of building a 1400 16v on a nova sr bottom end for hillclimbing. has also to use the nova mounts too, not the corsa or astra ones. they picked up on a mate with a mi16 in his 205 for that.

you can't use the astra or corsa mounts anyways :o

my mate has a 1.6 16v in his nova with a 4 branch and piper system and its real fast for a 16, before that he had a 1.4 16v in with same mods and did 16.0 seconds 1/4 mile at york. spot on. i say just use the engine from a corsa and save the hassle.

Yeah, just weighing up my options at the moment. I;m running a std 1200 right now with a 1400 race engine being built, a spare 1400 spi and a 1400sr engine. Also got a few spare cars that i wanna build. So might try pricing the different convertions first and decide then which way to go.

16 second 1/4 in a 1.4 16v? how far modded was it?

benji did 15.9 in his 1.4 8v.

u dont need a 16v oil pump - the crank sensor just fits on thru one of the existing oilpump bolts

u will need the 16v pistons tho

and if your plannin on running 40's its not cheap as theres no ewasy way of running a dizzy - that means expesive mappable management

The crank sensor bracket does fit on using one of the oil pump bolts on my 1600 8v. As wee found out yesterday. And im sure it will all line up aswel so thats good lol.
