Hi!
As you know I just started driving in my Nova. However, I think I'm using too much petrol somehow?
I'm putting in ?20 (79p per litre of petrol) a time and it lasts me 100 miles, does this work out at 18 MPG? If I put in ?10 I get about 50 miles.
It's a 1.0 engine, mainly town driving, stop start traffic most days etc, no motorway drives.

- should it be using so much?

Did I get the 18MPG bit right? When I searched on Google, a 3.2 litre 228 BHP Porsche has a fuel economy as 18 MPG

The car doesn't drive shit as such, its a bit sluggish and sometimes judders when ticking over, it does smell of petrol a bit but I can't see any leaks or drips.

And no, I'm not driving round with the choke out all the time. 8)

3.2 litre Porsche engine.... now that would be an engine conversion and a half

When was the last time it had a service? If its not ticking over too well then timing could be out.

?20 @ ?0.79 per litre = 25.3 litres.

100 miles @ 25.3 litres = 3.95 miles per litre

4.55 litres in a gallon*, so 3.95 x 4.55 = 17.98, so yeah, about 18MPG

*looky! I learnt gallons! I'm no longer Metric Boy!

I doubt even this would do that kinda mileage...

umm in town i had approx 17-18mpg from the 1.2

the porsche would ahve had an 18mpg combined lol

you are less than likely to find urban figures for a nova. but 18mpg isnt too "bad" i mean hell the omega does about 14mpg in town, possibly even less

isn't that the Diesal car that they say they base their new engines on.

Won 12 awards or something and did 100mpg for 24 hours in 1 go?

something along those lines.

it is low but you will probably find ur not revving the engine properly and so are forcing it to labour at low RPM's with wide throttle angle which will use more fuel

try taking it to about 3k in each gear and see what happens (and i dont mean floor it, u can accellerate gently but just hold each gear longer, prolly be around 15 in 1st 25 in 2nd 35-40 in 3rd etc)

my guess is better economy

Yeah, its the Eco Speedster, some super high MPG thing

My sisters GTi-180 has a real time MPG calculator.... you used to actually get better mpg in 3rd at 30 than in 4th, because (as Aragorn said) you don't have to open the throttle so much to keep the power there.
