Scott

it's got 5 doors
Overpriced.
You could get much better cars for less than ?9k.
And NEVER buy anything on finance, 99.9% of the time you're wayy better off getting a bank loan or suchlike (unless you want to be ass-raped at 30-odd% interest!)

mk 4 golfs seem to hold their value tbh
also what group insurance is it and how much will insurance be
Only group 10!
Security rating is "E" (no, that doesn't mean "easy" lol) so its probably been dropped down from 11.

wont the fact it has 5 doors bring it down

wont the fact it has 5 doors bring it down
doesnt afftect my insurance, as apparently mine is a 5 door GSI
ah right i thought some insureres may see it along the lines of
"its more of a family car as it has 5 doors as aposed to 3"
yes 5 doors do reduce the insurance for certain companies, as do estates and diesels i think...
but on a nova, i don't think it'd matter because it's got a reputation regardless of how many doors it has
Au contrare as the french may say.... dunno actually, been a few years since I dropped french at school (3 years and all I learnt was "Parlez vous une pomme du terre" lol)
5 doors can actually increase the permium as the insurance company may consider you'll be more likely to be carrying passengers - which means if you crash you'll be more likely to injure more people and thus they'll have to pay out more.
aye didnt think of that lol

The car is very nice (tho i prefer 3 doors, in all cars), and is not overpriced in the slightest. The price is just right.
The Mk4's hold their rpices very well, they have one of the best depreciation levels on the used car market.
115BHP is more than enough too. It's not a racecar.
Back to your original question, no way do i think an ongoing financial commitment of ?80+ a WEEK is good. Just get a 5.6% apr loan for ?3K and get a Mk3 golf instead. Or spread the cost over two )% free credit cards for 6 months.
There is no point in trying to have something if you can't actually afford it. Look at the alternatives.

the ?81 is finance n insurance a week
how much would you end up paying for the car and over how long?
tbh i wouldn't go for it.
115bhp is plenty, but for a 2litre 16V it is laughable. You will have the fuel consumption of a 2litre 16V and the power of a 1.6 16V. You will also be paying higher insurance becasue of the engine.
All Golfs hold their value VERY well for some reason compared to similar cars from other manufacturers, although there is no obvious reason fro this.
I agree with Marty about if you can't afford it, don't get it. Why would you be paying for insurance weekly? Would it be cheaper to get that somewhere else and just get a loan for the car, not finance. A loan is usually much cheaper than finance.
the ?81 is finance n insurance a week
what does that break down to
ie ?40 for the car ?40 for the insurance?

prehaps it's because of their Excellent build quality, renound reliability, interesting and confortable interiors and the fact that a whole VW engine is good for 200k +
could those be the obvious reasons lol

Marty, Im a banking credit assesment officer. 2 Credit cards with Decent credit limits will be a job on its own! Plus, If you apply for 2 within 3-6months it will lower your credit rating substantially.
Sainsburys Bank have a 12 month 0% on purchases card, 5.94 lob. So thats very competitive, Be careful though because not all car sales companies will accept credit cards! Or even 1 credit card! They may also charge you anything from 2%-whatever they want! & its all legal.
Taking money off the card will charge you 2% to start with & then 25.4% APR! Lol.
So try to get a loan with a building society, as they are typically cheaper.
Sorry about all that! Too much knowledge! Lol.

Can never have too much knowledge lol
Nationwide are pretty good for loans, as are Cahoot.

Lol, True.
& Your right...Nationwide are very good, Infact I think there the best at the mo. Abbey are good too. Best to avoid banks & 100% avoid car finance-It really is the most common cause for debt. If you have an accident there are many in's & out's when that happens, But you can guarantee....You lose the car-Cant buy it back & owe 2.5 k more then what you piad, Plus have to pay it all back! with no car!

Lmao, i saw a Golf GTTDI (couldn't afford a GTi obviously) with a sticker in the back window saying
"Old, and still a PIMP"

lol my parents charge a higher rate of interest than most finance companies
lol @ pimped GTTDi.... hmmm, when is UK Pimp My Ride gonna be out? Can't wait to see Westwood pimping up some chavaliers and fiestarrs
It will be more like Chav my ride.
Also I wouldn't class VW as being far superior to any other make. Yes they are very good, but the difference between the prices far exceeds the difference in build quality.
Audis = VW but they dont hold their value as well
A mate had to change a genuine VW part on his Polo 6 times in a year due to pants build quality and it falling apart (luckily it was on warranty)
ps I'm looking for an Audi currently so I do not dislike the make, the opposite actually, it's just the price difference is not justified IMO.

what do you mean more like chav my ride, it already is like that
is it just me, or has anyone noticed how much they shoddily bodge the cars on the show. i.e they look quite well done (not good) but really they're probably gonna fall apart soon.
i.e the interiors, they are good, but the seats all have stretch marks and baggy bits on them. I'm sure he's very good at it, but he only takes 5 mins doing them.
When they spray the cars, they jst bung aload of filler over badly dented panels instead of replacing them and they only spray the outside of the car.
Surely the rust is soon going to reappear ?
yep, most of the cars on there are made of filler and would fail a standard UK MOT.
and as far as westwood is concerned...
i would rather have to endure to sticking nails through my eyelids, or go through similar pain by talking to xzibit for half an hour than have to even set foot in the same room as westwood.
Westwood iz da man, er... man
If his sound effect machine suddenly couldn't play the gunshot, *boooom* or smashing glass sounds, his show would only be about 5 minutes long
lol @ the pimp my ride where they gave the guy "A whole new engine" purely by painting the rocker cover
Pimp/Chav My Ride is by far the funniest thing on telly 8)
That golf isnt worthy of a GTi badge.
It should be called the Golf lard + or somthing of a simular nature, to be honest I'd be tempted to spend 10k on somthing different.

I think you should get two of them.
Debt is very good for you. As is declaring yourself bankrupt. VERY good for you.
the thing that annoys me most on pimp my ride is when they strip everything out why not spray the inside and the engine bay make a proper job of it
instead of banging some subs cable tvs and chrome wheels on a shit box
