It's also technically fraud as he wont be the main driver.

actually it's not technically fraud.

it's a grey area in terms of the law, if your named the main driver, you don't actually legally have to drive the car the most.

Just been reading into this. On its own it is not illegal. However fronting makes 99% of insurance policies invalid as the named driver is the main driver, not an occasional user which is what is stated. If a policy is void, you are not insured. This is where it is illegal.

Surely you're supplying false information to the insurance company -saying a parent/relative/whoever is the main driver, when they're not - which constitues fraud?

Alex

I still think that, but i could not find any distinctive legislation refering to this. I only looked for a little while though

I dont know much about insurance law. Can't be arsed to investigate either - No point if you are fully legal.

Yeah but how would the insurance company be able to prove the main driver is not driving the car could u say the main driver (usually ur dad) uses the car on the weekends as a weekend car and how are the insurance company going to prove this not to be true. Also most young drivers who are on there parents insurance will not claim due to not being able to then insure a car for years.

i could insure a bog-standard GSi for ?200 more at the age of 19, 0NCB, no pass plus

Alex, i've been into the police station and they said that they cannot do anything about it in terms of the law. he did however say to check the insurance policy to see if it invalidates your insurance policy, he then said "everyone does it, and it doesn't do any harm"

I've read through my insurance details, policy, on-line terms and it says nothing about it.
