View Full Version : turbo a nova???
ALRGT CHAPS!
Hopefully ill be getting a redtop nova here this weekend, and was considering turboing it. But ive heard so much stuff that would put me off wanting to do it..
eg.. it'll rip the car to pieces, kink the roof, twist the chasis,be too heavy at the front end for a small car and drive like shit!!
So question is what advice can you give me to do a proper job!?strenghtening etc etc?
thanks
oooooh
if your wanting to turbo the XE engine, you'd have to do some work to the bottom end, and aquire the Turbo, intercooler,Manifold, piping.
The head's are just the same i think, but the LET's obv have a much lower comp ratio and mahle pistons e.t.c but it's pretty much mostly bottom end differences.
it shouldn't Rip your roof off if you do it right lol
for peace of mind i'd suggest Stich or seam welding the whole of the car, and not just the bay. Seam is just a continous weld along the seam of the two metal peices. Stich is a inch long weld, then an inch long gap, then an inch long weld (liking a sowing stitch) along the seam.
You can buy trengthening kits which i prefab peices of metal i think.

Just buy an let
I had a red top in mine and sold it and bought an let, alot less fucking about turboing the existing xe
As for stregthening seam or stich weld the bay and If you want to go further ie by adding the kit you want to get intouch with Harry Hockley, stick it in google and you wont go far wrong

If you are putting a LET in I wouldnt do the full car TBH, when fitted a bigger engine the strength needs to be around the front end, when a car has a full stitch weld it is mainly to give it rigidity for better handling. And a full car weld is a pain in the @rse, takes ages to prepare it all ready
