View Full Version : Body kit and speed bumps
I'm about to buy a nova with abyss body kit and its been lowered by 60 mm i think (the wheels couldn't be any higher up the arch).
Am i gonna get schmeized by Speed Bumps and if so, other than avoiding speed-bump routes are there any damage limitation tips?
Is the kit likely to break or will it just damage the underside?
-60mm on abyss should be ok on speed bumps, the abyss kit is basically GTE styled bumpers really, with an R&A blended onto the back of a mk2 rear bumper.
I have a Gsi front, VR6 splitter, and -60mm and it hits everything. so you could be worse off. mines about 4 cm's off the ground
when it hits everything what happens to the fiberglass?

its not so much the kit that catches the bumps but the exhaust. When lowed your exhaust can take a battering
the bottom of my standard bumper scrapes the humps on my civic so i think ill have to raise it abit when i get the bodykit
i dont have any fiberglass. so it's all ok, it just bends and scuffs plastic.
Fibreglass is brittle, so it'l crack it e.t.c
it will be fine if it's -60mm. honestly.

The underneath of my zaust is scratched to pieces, bloody speed humps
My old evo bumper came down quite low, bout 1.5" off the ground at the sides (from 60mm drop at the front on 15s). Never had too many problems with speed bumps just as long as you go careful and avoid the really big ones.
Thankfully round here they seem to have a liking to installing the ones which are suppsed to be "emergency vehicle friendly", i.e. just two small raised lumps. Sure, emergency vehicles can pass over them fine but so can everyone else

There are some of them around ere, but i think the workman got confused with meters and feet  , as the gap in between the humps is too wide so you can race through in any car
lol @ meters and feet ha
Mine is now about 4cm's from the ground at the front now, thanks to MR VR6 splitter
it's silly, i can hear stones catching it all the time when driving down a normal road.
tbh it all depends on how you take the spped bump. If you hit it at speed yer shocks'll bottom out and you'll probably catch the bottom of the bumper.
If you can take them at an angle and slowly
As for the brittleness of the fibreglass - it all depends on how it was made - if its a capy copy then it'll shatter or crack - if its of a good design with several layers you may get some flex - it all depends.
You shouldnt have any probs though.
The only thing Id say look out for is the ramps in multi storey car parks.
theyre basturds!
:D
