View Full Version : Fire !!!!!
Been doing some major changes part of which invloves putting a roll cage in.
Anyway to cut a long story short was busy welding it in and next thing i come back to it after going to get summink to find it well and truly on fire under the dash!:o
Managed to put it out with some buckets of water but it was a close run thing. I came close to not only losing the car but also my workshop costing ?00,000's
As it is the dash is fooked as is my nice Italvolanti steering wheel with a fair bit of smoke damage to the roof.
Feeling a weird mixture of gutted cos of the damage which will cost me time and money I ain't got but overall relief that it wasn't a lot worse. I think I would have topped myself if it had been more serious as I've been spending a lot of time and money on it recently.
A nasty experience never the less!
You were v lucky!
Nowt worse that working your arse off only to watch it all go up in flames.
I was driving to my parents down M6 on Friday and got caught in traffic jam other side of Manchester only to see a mk2 astra with some moddin on it well and truely ablaze on the hard shoulder. Engine bay was a roaring inferno! Poor bloke that owned it was just pacing up and down the road holding his head. The fire brigade hadn't arrived at that point - no chance of salvaging anything. Absolute nightmare!

oh now, that is interesting!
Was a tad scary!
You have to look on the bright side though, the bucket I used was soapy water so it got a soapy steam clean! It also means that some weight will be lost after the dash is cut out!

humm removing that soundproofing is a good idea
16v Engine fitting and advice... mail me for a quote :D
special rates for girls!!
It wasn't soundproofing. Don't forget me and CP have a complex about our weight! There hasn't been sound proofing in there for a long time, mind you it might of been wise to remove the cardboard and polythene sheeting from when it was sprayed!!! :O

fuckin hell that could have been nasty
my old sr would never have gone up in flames. the carpets and sound proof were just too soggy. lol
well my alternator shorted out on the throttle cable on mine. it arc welded the cable until it snaped, car went on tickover, nothing working right, i got out, opened bonnet to find a flame on the alt, nicely burning away at my fuel pipes. FCUK, water water quickly, luckily had a 1/2 full pepsi max from KFC which did a nice job of putting flames out :)
then there was the engine loom fire which i wasnt responsible for. i was in burger king, let my m8 take my car for a drive, next thing my other m8 comes running in saying my car was on fire. FCUK, luckily he had pulled off earth connection and put out the flames.
Iv carried an extinguisher in the car ever sis

I was coming up the local slip road off the M1 last Sunday night, when I looked in the rear view mirror......I don't know for sure what it was, but something fell from under my car on fire :O
I noticed a few red-glowing blobs rolling along the road behind me!
I'd put some padding between my zorst and the hand-brake cable to stop it rattling and I think it was that that was on fire!
It was gone when I looked the next day, put it that way!
I'd just been doing 120 all the way from junction 29 to 34, so the zorst was a bit hot!

i think that was a typo wasn't it rich - you meant to say you had been driving perfectly safely at a very legal 68 miles per hour. :D
