i wouldnt if i were you you'll over load something. if your gonna have lots of silly neons and crap like that make an auxilery (sp) fuse box to run them from

If you get the haynes max power manual

It tells ya in there how to make em, it's a much better idea because theres always room for expansion, you could create 20 ports really for wiring, looks better too.

the auxillary fuse box is the only way you can garantee your not going to f**k more then one thing up if something goes wrong!!!

aye deffo put them on there own feed make sure the cables the correct size with proper connections not scotch locks there crap and fuse the wire

Not forgetting of course to keep the new fuse box under the bonnet in the engine bay... not only is it easier access, its also safer if the thing does throw a wobbly lol. I sat two in line just the other side of the battery compartment, gave a total of 8 power points running central locking, UCNs, ICNs, Stereo, Amp, etc.

i just wired a neon into my car at the weekend, wired it into the boot light so it comes on when i open the boot

Did that on the hatch with some blue ones. Planning on doing the same in the saloon with some white ones as there's no rear light as standard in it, and its a pain not being able to see naff all in there when its dark!

ive got blue led lights off an ambulance (i used to wire ambulances for a living

set an alarm in the boot ....to act like a sound bomb ( house alarm ) if the windows smashed for me sub and.....that came off the boot light ..and a normal alarm up front - imobiliser next...as for the leds and neons ...you lot were right ..i ,m put a 10 amp fused 4 way splitter in and run the lot ( 2 x neons 3x leds -low consumption - will double em ) and hope for the best...the thing with electrics is the same caution to be obeyed with high pressure gas cylinders ( used to service em for the raf ) theyre a sleeping giant that must be respected and not p***ed about with...

keepin em crossed .

neon's are dangerous, especially if they have a transformer box.

car electircs aren't really.

the worst are the HT leads, they really hurt if you get a shock through them.

Nick , the ones I,m gonna install have the transformer boxes ( alloy not plastic ones mind ) are these items hazardous ??

IIRC the transformer box transforms the voltage to something like 1000v...

so make sure you wire it all up properly, and take some care when you install them.

they aren't dangerous if you don't piss around.

tis now all finished ( uv looks mad - reminds me of my rave days ) - was a beggar in the cold mind...things have vastly improved tho - now thawed out, for starters after it was finished went to the fridge to make a cuppa and found beer ..SPECIAL BREW in fact ...dont normally drink this , but its the only larger in the house at the moment , so its consumed - warms better than anything. As for the gayness of the lighting ...well .....horses for courses .The advise to obtain the max power Haynes manual was appreciated , didnt even realise there was one , problem is , its been read in one sitting - wot will take its place in the throne room ...? Razzle ??
:D

Theres one thing to be said about fiddlin with motors ( my garage is too full of house crap to park and work) BRING ON THE SUMMER .

cheers all.

can anyone bring " light " to this ...

I,ve a pair of 4 inch uv neons I wanna install on the edge of the dash next to the air vent , but - the bluddy wire to the neon bulbs is too short . Now some one said they are dodgy things to mess about with - is it possible to extend these wires ??

cheers

couse you can extend them with through crimps mate

The wires are ok to mess about with - just don't open up the tube and piss about with the transformer and etc!

you can pish about with it all you want tbh aslong as its not live

aye, the wires going to the neopn tube only contain 12v

anyways, you get get hit by 100000000000 volts and it wouldn't kill you, current is the killer.

If you were conductive enough to conduct all the current out of a 12v battery it'd kill you, it only needs about 2-3amps.

fact is, your body is like a big resisitor

am sure it only needs to be 0.1amps to kill iirc

lol that too

I was thinking though a mucked about with transformer and what not could be an electrical or fire hazard if its not working right when you plumb the power back into it...

So is it easy to chop the cigarette adapter off the end of neons and wire them straight into the live?

epo
05-03-05, 03:25 PM
yeah if your running in a new circuit make sure its fused with the correct size fuse

your probably right, TBH i thought it was more like 1, but i put 2-3 just incase i was hidesously wrong lol. as 2-3 sounds a bit more realistic.

no mate not 1 amp 0.1 its that small is capable of killing
