After i have changed carbs recently, my car is now a pain in the arse to start when its cold.

I just cant put any revs on (with the choke in or out) as when i press the pedal it dies. I can just keep it going by feathering the gas but eventually it still cuts out.

Now, while im trying to keep it goin i can hear a hissing or sucking sound from the carb area. When warm, its ok, but still has a flat spot after i first put my foot down. I have gone through 3 carbs trying to fix this flat spot problem and now its crap when i first start it aswell.

Its not the carb/inlet gasket as i made one out of proper gasket paper and cut it so the holes match up perfectly and the 'new' carb has suposedly been rebuild with new valves and gaskets aswell.

Any ideas much appreciated.

maybe its simply not jetted or setup correctly

get it into a carb specialist who has the correct equipment for setting up the idle mixture etc and i'd bet it would run properly

and gasket paper is not the proper gasket

the real gaskets are about ?3 and tbh i'd use one of them before some random paper

to test the manifold seal spray carb cleaner along the mating interface with the engine running and see if the revs change, also do this on the carb to manifold mating flange as it could leak there too

ade had a warped inlet manifold on his old sr which leaked all the time, he tried new carbs etc before a decent specialist realised the manifold wasnt sealing properly across 2 and 3
