View Full Version : road angel
this is sort of a duel question about them!
1. how good are they at detecting camera's and radar traps?
(any novaloaders reviews /links to reviews would be handy!)
2. how good are they at measuring the speed of the vehicle?
(as 17's tend to throw the speedo out! so when you're doing 70 it reads as 90+)

Ello m8 the RA is gd in all areas, but if your looking at spending tht kinda money i would get the snooper of b2.
I seem to remember Dan_mk1 having one up for sale a little while back? Might be worth a pm to see how good they are.
newer cameras are fitted with lasers and not radar so many detectors wont be detected - and youve no chance against unmarked cars with units in them.
Bottom line is either -
a - dont speed in built up / obvious areas
b - check out the speedcamera website that tells you where they all are!
http://www.abd.org.uk/cameras/map.htm
This is a scarey site - especially for my home town - its only small and has a HUGE page (Staffordshire)
Theres also a site that shows where the police will be operating in the coming weeks/months - not sure what it is though
heres an intersting site on the little buggers -

Doesn't the Road Angel have a net connection so that you can update its internal GPS database every day?
yeah it does you buy the subscription to the downloads when you buy the unit.
am really after the speedo caluclation bit more than anything.
i don't normally speed and defenitly don't where it's not safe to so it's not really an issue for the camera detection, but is always handy for a back-up if you've got sommant on your mind!
i know where most of the fixed cameras are and also the 'safety camera van' has to display it's location and i know where to find the info about that!

I recently bought 3 road angel 2's for my work vans as drivers were getting flashed all the time and it was causing alot of arguements along the lines of 'it wasnt me'!
I cant really fault them, i use it in my road car on weekends and its never let me down. You update its database via the net, which i update every week. It has built in sensors to pick up mobile speed cameras and it allso warns you where the police regularly sit with mobile cameras. It also features blackspot warnings and schools warnings.
It gives a true speed aswell which is allways visable, though i have found that it cant keep up with the evo!
So in reflection, yes i wouldnt hesitate to buy another one. Picks up ALL cameras i have encounted even mobile ones, and they are worth having just for the blackspot warning as some country lanes are a bit lairy at times.

cheers karl
exactly the responce i was looking for!
did you hunt around for the best prices or just stump up the cash for them?

I ended up buying from halfords believe it or not. I got 3 GPS navigation systems at the same time so they did me a massive discount on buying all togeather.
Be warned at the moment about buying them off ebay etc. Thousands were stolen from the manufacturer and these items are being sold on cheap. When you come to use it, it wont do diddly! Afew members on the Lancer Register have been ripped off so be warned mate.
