My mates E16se engine has developed a prob, the engine is revving itself from tickover to just below 2k then droppin.
Sometimes it sticks for abit at just below 2k. It also sounds a bit rougher than usual. It has only done 68k so cant see it bein anything major.
Any ideas?

Try checking all the rubber air hoses around the engine for cracks or splits, similar thing happened on my bros 2L SRi Cavvy.
Also check air flow sensor could be a bit mucky try giving that a clean!
Hope this helps
mine GSI does exactly the same thing mate.
dont want to sound dumb but where is the air flow sensor? i'll have a try though.
noveoclawsk16v would you be able to PM and let me know what your mate does to get it sorted, if cleaning the air flow sensor doesn't work.
cheers
Sticky idle valve or fuel cut-off valve??
Dont think the AFM would cause this, but may be wrong. The AFM is the silver box on the right hand side of the engine (your left) and has a hose running to the throttle body. Near the alternator.
idle control valve , sounds like

On closer inspection it appears to be suckin in air afaink one of the afm pipes maybe split. It got put on a computer and no fault showed up, the engine just seams to have a fuel/air mix problem.
When i had my gsi engine the small afm pipe which joins to the largeone became loose and that made the car run rough and cut out.
Cheers for the help 8)

heh. everyone seems to have this problem. where abouts is the idle control valve on an E16SE engine? it's doing my head in and the last set of MOT paperwork said that emissions were around 3.3%, which seems excessively high for a EFI engine!
just found that valve earlier, its on the EFI (injection) box, if you bend down so your eye level with it facing the windscreen, you'll see the screw, it's on the left hand side, in like a tunnel (sort of thing)
hope that helps.
