finally got my car on to a 1/4 mile today at crail

my best time was a 16.4 (87.4 terminal, 2.7sec 60ft, 0.844sec reaction time) with no rear seats (as seen in my other thread)
not too bad i dont think, although my shitty gear ratios are slowing things down a bit

my bro's 1.2i ran an 18.8 (72.7 terminal, 2.9 60ft, 0.733sec reaction) at best - just shows the little mods pay off :)

links to our days slips are here:
Mine(the horrible 19.3 was craig in my car, mashed every gearchange :P):

1.6 16v with a 4branch and ashley system (and a gay gearbox [WR-355FD for those interested])

bros is a 1.2 8v SPi with GTE manifold and downpipe, ashley system, GTE cam and part stripped interior (no rear seats and cobra monacos upfront) and his std 4 speed [WR-394FD] box

WR355 lol, did you go over the line in 2nd? cool.

less gear changes = more time at full throttle  .

have you still got plans with your gearbox? Is it F13 or F15?

over line in 3rd at 87mph :p (3rd maxes out around 95) - and although more time at full throttle the revs will prolly drop outta the peak power zone on every shift ;)

i'm planning on changing to a WR418...

ive done some calculations and only other box i'd be happy with is a cr355 (f20 gearing) but ive drove around sticking to 4th in my box (which is the same as 5th in the cr355 gearing) and really got pissed off on the motorway etc

wr418 seems quite good - 1st to 3rd is almost the same as a GTE box (cr374) 4th and 5th are a bit wider tho

i'll do some graphs and post them up when i get a chance

Definately change the gearbox! My K&N'd (at the time) E16SE ran 16.29 @ santa pod with full interior, your gearbox must be slowing you down!

Not a great time mate, but how much that is due to the box I cant say!

Denny dud a 16.2 with a fully loaded GTE (standard) and a mate of mine with a boggo 1.6 16v ran a 15.6 fully stripped.

yer im still not fully convinced the engine is running properly tbh, just at a lost as to what its wrong with it and how to fix it - the idle is all over the place and it pops n bangs on the overrun at high rpm but plugs are fine, lambda and CTS are new, and its doing 40mpg in normal mixed fast and crusing driving

16.4 with no back seats means prolly 16.7+ with the back seats and rear doorcards shelf etc

ok i did have really shite tires on so was taking it easy on the launches but surely this would show up in my 60ft times?

is 2.7secs good or bad?

what abour the 87mph terminal thats normally a good estimation of power? what was your mates 16.2 at terminal? and the 15.6?

im kinda loath to continue to replace random components untill the problems go away, the coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor and AFM are the only things i havent changed and they arent cheap, i dont wanna take it to a rolling road either as if they know summats wrong with it they will just fiddle the nubmers to make it look really bad to get $$$ from me for repairs

i might drop a new crank sensor in and try to get a replacement coil pack from scrapyard and see if that fixes it but i know theres no chance of me finding another AFM anywhere round here :(

instead of spending all this money trying to get it right, why not buy some carb's? Get more out of it.

my terminal speed was @ 84mph and I was at 60ft in 2.400 secs.
My best 60 ft time is 1.890, showing 16.43 secs & terminal speed of 80mph

I managed a 16.2 @ 82mph in standard GSi, not sure on my 60ft time though!!

Thats waaaay to fast for a fwd car, about the best you can hope for is a 2.2 IIRC

18.8 isnt bad bearing in mind i had a 1/4 calculator that said a 1.2 doing 53bhp in standard weight would run approx 18.5 secs

and this was a "calibrated" calc with some of dans data to set a known point.

yer i thaught it was quite good for that - 1.2i's as std are deathly slow, the exhaust and cam defo given it a new life :)

Get yours RR'd to check what the feck the fuelling is up to.

My old engine was the same, turned out to be a loom issue!!

Aragorn

interesting - wiring loom is a bit of a mess...

what exactly was wrong with your loom?

the most fuelling info i have to date is when it was at the MOT station, on the gas tester it was doing around 0.7% co but every time the engine "shunted" (ie revs dropped a bit and engine kinda shuddered) the hc doubled or tripled from 3-400 to peaking at 1200 at times

this shunting is consant but random at idle...
