View Full Version : Boring out XE block
Just thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience in doing this.
Eg; what size the block can be bored out to, people who can do it, etc...
Cheers!

i'd say 1mm is defo safe and that would give 2043cc
ive heard folk claiming "2.1L" which would require a 2mm overbore and i really dont know if this is safe - 1.5 might be tho
speak to an engineer
i have 50 thou oversized pistons (1.25mm) there still looked like there was room for a bigger piston. i dont see why a 80 thou overbore would not be poss.
mines about 2050 now by the way
can you not buy new thicker sleves for xe's ?? i know you can for jap lumps
xes dont use sleeves. they are just a cast block which you bore out to the size you want.
Cool.
Cheers guys.
Any contacts, phone numbers, websites etc?
Thanks.
I got a reply off Courtenay, who said:
The maximum that we have ever taken this block is 88mm which is hardly any increase in capacity, if you go bigger the bores distort at high rpm and the engine will use oil.
The pistons to do this are high yield forged units and they cost ?155 each.
Does anybody know the bore size as standard, is it somewhere around 85mm?
Cheers, Rob.
How much would u expect to gain from an extra 50 cc?
with or without other mods?

take my mods, they produce 77.8bhp per litre. (103bhp)
basically if it were possible to increase my capacity by another 50cc, i would in theory (and pretty close in practice) be getting 107bhp.
Cool, its worth doing then, how much work is involved, is it a matter of getting someone to bore the block for you and changing the pistons?
Whats the benefit of using better pistons (other than the fact theyre better lol), ive heard of people using cosworth pistons but never understood why.
