Anyone else on novaload play the guitar !?
I do-6 years on and off. I have 5 electrics and 1 acoustic. Marshall solid state half stack, fostex 8 track and korg multi effects pedal. How about you?
Just an Ibanez DTX 350 (like a scaled down esp Explorer) just a striaght thru bridge, really good sound and a Marshall DFX30 amp.
Gonna get a KORG Ag1500x next tho, they r quality
here it is, i have an acoustic ibanez as well.

the EMG active pickups it came with are both being repaired, so i've got 2 humbuckers as replacements, the top one is missing a screw so sounds shit anyway.
ala Hetfield style
complete with Camera battery charger and Electric toothbrush charger, they improve the sound quality
my new boss can
i know its not me lol
but he's really good
ive had him playin all nirvana songs especially the man who sold the world
Epo u listen to some Pantera don't u ? sure i saw a post a while ago, walk ?
shame he's dead now tho :(
yeah ill listern to allsorts am eclectic (sp)
my mp3 collection is very broad but
ive always like nirvanna got most of their albums
cool i got a couple of nirvana albums, but i got like 200hours worth of MP3's so it's hard to remember what i have and havn't got.
I really like Heart Shaped Box, think that's a cool song, got the vid for it.
I listen to alot of Old school Pantera and Metallica, Fade to blak and Sanitarium are two classic metallica songs that shouldn't be missed.
Don't get me wrong, Nirvana were great, but their music was very simple. That doesn't mean it wasn't good, but anyone that's played for more than 6 month's wouldn't have much trouble playing Kurt's riff's lol.
Personally i play power/speed metal. I think this is where the most skill is and some of the lead guitarists are the best you will ever hear. If you want to hear some AMAZING riff's, solo's and speed then download some tunes by 'children of bodom'. Alexi Laiho (their lead guitarist) is (imo) one of the best guitarist's of the last 5 years-present. Also, Tomi Tolki from 'Stratovarious' is incredible (and as it happens is friends with Alexi lol), but he is technically incredible, whereas Alexi is technically incredible AND has a lot of 'feel' behind his playing. Both are excellent though.
Sorry, could go on and on about this lol
check out John5, maralyn mansons old guitarist, he produced an album, called vertigo.
he's absolutly fucking amazing, but no-one has even known !
I have to say, the best guitarist as a partnership are Hammet and Hetfield, they are amazing. Hammet being one of the all time greatest lead players, and Hetfield undoubtably THE greatest Rythm guitarist.
Although, one of my very highly rated Rythm guitarists is Jon Schaffer From iced earth, his Live accuracy is phenominal, it's really unbleiveable, just sounds like a studio album, no mistakes, writing crunching riff after riff after riff.
people like Yngwie malmsteen are unbelieveable, but some people argue that anyone can learn to play scales lightning fast and just wank their guitar off for 1/2 hour.
I've never liked Marilyn Manson, in fact i fucking hate him and what he stands for lol, so i've never heard his guitarist/music tbh.
Sorry Nick, but if you think Hammet and Hetfield are that great then you really haven't listened to enough bands imo. I mean, Hammet is good (when it comes to riff's) and yes he has got it right on afew solo's, but i would only say he's average. It also depends on what you deem as 'good'. Personally i'm a real speed lover, so Hammet doesn't really cut it for me.

Is this live on DVD or CD? Because i think you'll find that on most 'live' albums, they have been severly edited, played with and perfected in a studio after ecording. Take, the S&M album for example-extremely edited. I bet if you were there it wouldn't have sounded anywhere near that good.
Yngwie malmsteen is amazing and i would agree to an extent that you can learn to be very quick, but Malmsteen (and Alexi Laiho lol) aren't just quick-they have feel behind their music. You can't learn that.
Last thing-what in the name off fuck was the 'Saint Anger' album all about??? Pile of wank that was lol
personal jesus song was maralin mansons best altho it wa a cover

Go Listen to some Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen or Richie Blackmore. Christ, Eddie Van Halen, I could go on, but you get the idea, the people you haven't heard of are normally the best in their field. I'm waiting for someone to say the guitarist in some crap boy band is good!
Chris
I bought a second hand electric and amp about 8 years ago but I wasn't an expert straight away so I sold them

Nick you must have read my mind mate i was thinking of seing who playes on NL and though about doing a post..
Well i play both(on-off over a few year's now) the acoustic"Yamaha FG411S solid top spruce"(whitch i prefure over my electric as it sound's lovely) :P
But also dable with my electric"Gibson/Epiphone,special" and i have a Zoom 505 FX pedel to go with it and only have a crappy park amp,as i didnt have to much money when i bought it,lol..
But my prferd musical taset are a bit gay,lol i like the old stuff by the betals and the beach boys, and the animals "house of the rising sun" or deep purple, etc and some of the newer stuff to day, though as of my age i was into all the indi stuff, oasis and blur,lol..anyway enough said before i make my slef sound worse..

my cousins done a few gigs at scunny lol, also nottingham he can't go any were at the moment because he can't drive and he needs a van to transport his instruments
Dunova, I've seen video's of jon schaffer which havn't been edited, and he plays to perfection. he's probably the most underrated guitarist out there.
And the John5 thing, i hate maralyin manson, but now his guitarist has left, he's come out of the woodwork.
and i wouldn't say hammet is average, he's just sloppy live, when he pulls his finger out of his arse he's quality. but i was refering to their partnership.
bassist wise, can't beat cliff burton, as peper kenan said (from dream Theater) "Cliff was a specially gifted person, you only get one person like that every 100 years"
Don't you find though that people are only ever 'specially gifted' if they die soon after they're dicovered? Other examples of this are Hendrix and Elvis. Sorry to be so sinicle but that's how i see it. I fully agree that Cliff Burton was a truelly excellent basist, but if he were alive today i doubt he'd be as highly rated as he is now.
i think he would be, he was pretty amazing.
i've got some of the live bootleg stuff + all the DVD's and some of his live performances are amazing, just doing that wierd lead style bass playing.
plus, he did think of and write all the harmonies in orion, infact he nearly wrote the whole song, and he wrote the interlude of master of puppets, and alot of the master of puppets album, which is argueably the best metal album of all time (along with reign in blood or whatever it's called)

lmao
When i was at uni, there was a guy learning to play the guitar that lived next door. Then one night, when were all drunk, this girl took his guitar and started playing it. And she was fucking excellent! No one knew that she had been playing for years and was studying music and etc lol
Anyway, i was blown away and decided to become a rock-star (because of this and other things). Bought myself a Fender and amp, learned two co-ords as soon as i got home.....then didn't even touch it for a whole year. It was just a decorative piece in the corner of my bedroom. lol
Then i sold them both, and at a profit! lmao

ok guys(BTW had few drinks bare with me,lol) it's all good us talking about other ppls music etc,but how many of you have writern your owne stuff??
I first sat down and started to write stuff when i was 14(im now 24) and i have wrote around 28 songs in total(writers block and living your youth gets in the way, lol)most are lyrics, etc but some (12) i have gone on to write notes, and tablitcure to,but im a bit shat at writing music,so i stick to TAB,lol
I would say that out of all of them there is only 12 i would consider for a album if i wer to do one....most are in a style of cold play or blur, then the odd few in a sex pistols style  ...anyway just wonderd who also dose there owne stuff..
PS: no piss taking this has been a good thred so far..

i write my own stuff. not done it for a while but still write little licks to go with some chords but never get round to figuring out chords  . I dont write the lyrics though very often cuz im not very good at that. I got some stuff recorded that my old band did. everyone else out the band seems to be making money in bands now but me
Marshall solid state half stack, fostex 8 track and korg multi effects pedal
Give you a clue? Yes i do, although recently with uni i stuggle to find the time. I've been in 3 bands aswell, but they didn't work out for different reasons. It's really hard to find people you like, have similar taste's in music and are on a similar skill level.
I mainly write melodic power/black/'fantasy' metal. Lots of organisation is needed to get a well structured song and i must admit that's where i struggle the most. Coming up with good riff's, solo's and break-downs is the easy bit-putting it all together is the hardest part. Well, putting it together WELL is the hardest part.
A lot of young amateur bands can make a song that is badly structured and has no real power. A sign of a good band is if they can make a song that flows and uses key changes perfectly to create a song that builds up and has a kind of 'conclusion'.
i can't write music for shit....
however after learning all the pentatonic scales/boxs i can pretty much solo over any riff that i hear, so i just improvise everything
