Well thought i would post up my findings of owning the evo, its really only my second 'fast' car along with the nova!

Its been a fun 6 months, though i didnt really appreciate when people said it was expensive to run just how bad it would be. If you think your novas on twin carbs etc are bad i dont suggest buying one  I think i get on average 140 miles to a tank which is approx ?40, the worst i have seen is about 70 muiles to a tank. Though this isnt the bad part!

Its the servicing that stings you, so far i ive had one service which cost ?400 plus ?500 for the cambelt and tensioners. Its going for its next service in a month which it will need a clutch/flywheel (?1000) Pads and disks all round (?1100) Rear arms (?341) and front shocks (?380) plus the service is ?240) :o

All the above prices are quoted by extreme in dudley so needless to say i will be shopping round for better prices and probably doing a fair bit of it myself. Though the thing with evos i have found is, people want to see a good service history if it isnt there it seriously affects the resale.

In the mean time i got bored so ive just fitted a HKS RS filter and pipe work and a full scorpion system and decat, WOW :o What a difference! Its like a full on rally car now that chatters its arse off lol. Its made a real difference to the power delivery, never did i think an air filter would make such a difference. Still to come is a front pipe and new ralliart ecu.

So looking at it, i dont regret it for a moment (though i cant afford to use the nova this year  ) Just be warned, when the toys get bigger so do the bills! Stick with your novas as long as you can, you really cant beat them for the money

How do you guys (Matt, jkhilton) etc get on? Can you recommend any companies for parts ect? Iam thinking of taking the car to Gaz at CPP, have you used him for any work?

P.S I am off to westfield the first week in march to test drive hopefully next years project and new car, a bike engined beast! Maybe i will be the next to sell my nova

Karl,

John uses CPP as last time he had a clutch done at Mitsi they didnt bleed up the Anti YAW properly and therefore knackered up his transfer box. He also used them for the Autronics, they have a very good reputation for this I do believe. Matt has just found a fella over in Lincoln who specialises in EVO's, he is sorting him out with a full service and some bits need sorting out before our european trip. If I owned one I would be careful which Mitsi garage I took it too, and when I found one I would stay with it and go on the test drive with them :!: Give Matt a shout (or he will probably be on later) and he will probably give him the details for the fella in Lincoln

Cheers for the reply Chris

I was not happy at all with the service i recieved at extreme, especially considering how much i spent with them. I havnt heard anyone say a bad word about Gaz so i think i will be booking the car in with him for the beginning of march. I trust he will tell me what the car needs. Want to get everything just right for the ring

P.S the link you sent me was the set i allready looked at but he wants way to much for them. It will be cheaper still for me to buy new. Thanks for looking out anyway mate.

Pads and Disks for ?1100 !?

that's a joke, seriously ?

Chris

I picked up some front pads for Matt's VI and they were 300quid in a box, not fitted. You have to go for original Brembo pads as aftermarket ones squeal and it is virtually impossible to stop it

Seriously lol. I have a few contacts though from my race team days so fingers crossed i can get it down under a grand. Any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved

i know its not the same
and ive said it before

but my mate had an evo one
his cost list was

1. ?1000 for an engine rebuild after the head gasket went
2. ?1000 for the racing clutch which went after the engine was rebuilt
3 ?200 for a reconditioned alternator after the power steering pump went and pished fluid all over it
4. ?100 for the pas pump
5. the gearbox was crunching so he sold it on

he only had it 4 months

it was an ex japan track car tho so was stupidly quick but had been well hammered

Karl go to Gaz at CPP, hell you never know when your evo goes in you might see my nova there! Gaz is doing the initial getting it on the road mapping as soon as i have finished all my work on it. Spoken to him a few times and have been out in johns evo and i would not even think twice about going there with a evo or any high powered car. Rick

You have confirmed what i was thinking Rick  Ive seen 2 of the cars he has built and the standard is way beyond anything i have seen before with an evo. His prices aswell are very good, as i think he does it more because he loves his job. He is not doing it to rip people off.

Look forward to seeing it there then hopefully.

Epo, thats the only thing when buying one, finding a good one! I looked for months to end up with mine. It had 16000 on the clock and ive only done 3000 since. They are pretty bullet proff aslong as they have been looked after. All the parts worn on mine are consumables  just a shame they cost so much

Nice to see the postings of the pros and cons of a super car.
To me an evo is one of the best street cars out there.
Id love to own one but cant see it happening now as theres other things i want to put money in and cant do it all ways!

But you have a very stunning example there karl. All the bills will be worth it i think once sorted. Expensive yes but quality car . And im sure they hold there money very well ???

Anyhow look after it matey! look forward to seeing it again this year. as do i Mr hiltons!!!!

later matey!

Scrap It!!! and Start using the Nova everyday......

No mate seriously, It's an amazing car, It's just a shame it costs so much to run and maintain... and i think you need that fuel gauge sorting too!! I've seen the way it drops!!!

NovaNeil

I think it'll be a while before I can afford one of these.....although personally i've got a soft spot for a Scooby over an EVO

My mates had one of those EVO 6 EXTREMES! He nearly had a heart attack when they told him its main service it was nearly due for would set him back nearly ?2000 :o So he sold it before and brought a P1 Impreza... Only to be told that at 25,000miles it required a ?1000 service to change the Cam belt...lol he's now got a 205 GTi

In a way I feel for you Karl...... The cost of ownership is shocking..... Then I just get Jealous that you've got such an awesome machine :D Fair play mate! Just make sure you take me out for a spin before you sell it.... round Curbourgh will do

i have never given one of my cars a service :$ i really think i should go and give my nova one lol but ?1000 for a service on a evo Jesus christ !!!!!!!!! if u buy one brand new dont u get like 3 years free servicing or somthing ??? or is that just with dodgy fords

Chris, thats what i am looking forward to now getting all the bits sorted. You tend to drive the car differently when you know it needs the essentials sorting. I look forward to getting everything done then enjoying it for what it is, evo's arent meant to be locked up in a garage

Its the best all round package i have driven, and the handling is from another planet! I honestly dont think i will ever find its limits around a bend and if i do i think i will be dead. Not quite sure how i still have my license.

Andy, i think you are the only one thats really been in it with me. Must admit we have had a few laughs so far  Petrol gauge, its more like the seconds hand on a clock when you gun it  Bring on Germany mate, your driving it!

Neil, they are well worth the money honest mate and tbh i cant afford it. But i hope i will look back and be glad i owned one. Just want to own a few other cars aswell before i have to settle down

P.S i will take you round the ring mate but i would much rather go round in your new nova

Dave, to be honest i cant compare the two they are completely different in there own ways.

The nova will allways win as far as attachment, because its been my car for 8 years and ive had blood sweat and tears building it over the years, plus its allowed me to meet a top bunch of people. As for the driving experience the nova is very rare and YOU feel part of the car (you get out what you put in) The evo on the other hand wins at times because it makes you feel as if you ARE a rally driver  It really is amazing to drive, but it allmost takes the fun out of it as it handles too good at times. I guess it depends on your driving style.

Thing is as many people are showing i.e nick/rob and brett, we have to move on and to be honest i want to experience a fair few more cars before i settle down. So long term there probably is a question mark over the nova, but while i dont need the money i have no intention of selling it

Scott/Benji you will be pleased to hear i wasnt driving it fast that day  Will have to take you out with all the new bits on, its a fair bit faster now. Also scott if you are intrested in a years time you will get a bargain as the car will be good for a fair few thousand miles when i have finished with it. I bet i wont sell it lol.

Upps! Sorry Chris i forgot your friend was intrested. As said before though i probably wont want to part with it

To be honest i will be quite nervous when i have to sell it. I would rather sell it to someone i know then i dont have to worry about some guy coming round with a gun looking for his test drive! Quite a few are being stolen from brum at the mo.

Ok then, guess i will have to settle for your nova then karl? :P

That way you can come and see it at week ends, though i think i would probably end up just storing it,or making a HUGE cabnit to keep it in,lol place it in the midlands motor museum, actualy no joke i wonder if vauxhall would enter it into a museum of motorsport? :D

not had access to the net for a few days, so only just seen this.

I've used CPP for all the work on my car and his prices have always been fair and the quality of the work has always been spot on, plus like you say, if the car has been serviced/worked on by a known Evo tuner, then it makes it easier to sell in the future(or part ex for a IX :) )
