Well its finally happened, my 1st accident, thankfully not my fault. Was sitting at a junction waiting to pull out with a mate in passenger seat, then BANG and next thing i know we're 10ft into the road! Got his details, luckily it was a veccy and he was a rep so its a company car. He accepted responsibility but he had no choice really. Bumper fell off and the bck ends been pushed in about a foot, its also pushed the off side rear arch out about 6inch and its now a struggle to shut the passengers door. I think its a write off but im not sure.
A few questions 4 those who know as im quite worried it being my 1st accident etc.
1) I sustained neck and shoulder injury in the crash, its not life threatening but is v uncomfortable. Should i seek personal injury.
2) Im contacting insurance co today, what happens next. Will they send an assessor round or will i have to take it somewhere.
3) The car isnt std, but after the w/e it will be back to factory standard except the Flair spoiler on the boot. The car is mk 2 1.2i. Now should i leave it on and hope no wquestions r raised by the other insurance co (his fault remember. Or will it be irrelevant as its his co paying not mine. I know your own co checks if u claim on your insurance for damage to your car if its your fault. But what if its not your fault, do they still look at these things??
4) Someone told me if any of my tyres r not road legal this may affect my claim. Is this true? Even thought it had nothing to do with the accident??
5) If its written off what am i likely to get. Its a mint 92 1.2i "completely std". 1 previous lady owner, 55000 miles on clock, FSH, all previous MOT certificates. ?100 alarm and immobiliser, ?300 sony 10 disk stacker and face off head unit.(i think the stacker was damaged in the crash. Plus a few other new parts. Im hoping for ?1200, is this likely?????

I am in need of moral support, so no "jokes" or "witty" comments, thanks. Tony :(

P.S will try and get pics.

go to a hospital and get a doctors report for whip lash so you have a record of you injury at a later date also your passanger can sue as well and i think if some one else hits you you are intitled to a curtiousy car untill you get the full money you want for your car ( this usually makes the other insurance company pay out quicker )

even a tap on the rear end of a nova will right it off so i sould imagine it is wrote off

take off any parts that are not on the car as standard

the first offer the insurance company will make for the car will be shit so refuse it

how much did you tell your insurance company your car was worth ?

i see a lot of mint 1.2i in the paper for up to 1500 so go for as much as you can

think thats all i need to say

i am on the save for loads of mods

written off

tyres need to be legal. condition of the policy car must be roadworthy so will void insurance and leave u with a nice no insurance prosecution and 6-8 points.

no sympathy if u hadnt disclosed ur mods and engineers arent thick, our one has lots of modified cars and bikes.

go to hospital for xray on neck. only claim if u are stuck with pain after a while dont listen to claims direct wankers putting everyones insurance up.

1) I sustained neck and shoulder injury in the crash, its not life threatening but is v uncomfortable. Should i seek personal injury.

get to hospital right now and get paper work saying ur fucked... get signed off work asap

2) Im contacting insurance co today, what happens next. Will they send an assessor round or will i have to take it somewhere.

it's a 3rd party claim u don't need to inform ur insurnace because he has admitted liability... were the police called???

3) The car isnt std, but after the w/e it will be back to factory standard except the Flair spoiler on the boot. The car is mk 2 1.2i. I know your own co checks if u claim on your insurance for damage to your car if its your fault. But what if its not your fault, do they still look at these things??

his insurance co have to reinstate u to the way u were before the accident they will not contact ur ins co tpo check (but still put the car back to std as close as u can)

4) Someone told me if any of my tyres r not road legal this may affect my claim. Is this true? Even thought it had nothing to do with the accident??

u need tax mot ins and car has to be able to pass mot before accident

5) If its written off what am i likely to get. ?700 tops ?100 to buy it back

I agree with Blondie and Novaload, you should only claim if you are really in pain, not just for the sake of claiming. Everyone always complains about how high insurance is, well that is why, cos people make all these pointless compensation claims!!!
not being funny, but novaload wasn't being nasty, just pointing out the facts. We all have to have insurance and basically if it was your fault that the accident had happened and you hadn't declared all your mods, then your insurance would be invalid and the other guy would then have to find another way of getting his car repaired. Think about it mate, it wouldn't be nice if the other guy didn't have insurance cos he had his car modified and didn't tell the insurance about it, I am sure you would be the first to complain.

Basically there is no point is skimping on insurance!

Soon to have a Turbo!! but what kind?!?!??

Ste - Thanks mate ;), that was the kind of advice i was looking for. The police weren't called by the way. Also im in the last 6 months of my final year at uni=lots of work. I really cant afford to take time off, but i dont get paid anyway so i wouldnt be able to claim that back on his insurance.

Jkh - I understand where u r coming from and u r right in principle. Mods that i have were generally bought cheap 2nd hand, some have been declared but others havnt as it would have put my insurance up too much. Now some people will say if u can afford to mod ur car u should be able to insure it too. Which is true, but when u r in studentland every penny counts and sometimes u just put off telling the ins co for fear of it being too expensive until its too late.

Fingers crossed though, if everything goes ok and i get paid out, the next car i get (obviously a nova) will have everything fully declared. As has been said its just not worth the risk.

Thanx 4 the advice peeps, and would anybody be interested in seeing pics of my wrecked pride n joy?? :)

Always call the cops first. When I had an accident last year, that was the first thing i did. Car stopped in middle of road between 2 bends (60mph B road). I was on the phone to my breakdown company (standing on pavement) and some other boy spun his car into wall just before mine and stopped half a metre from my left LEG!!! though i was going to become a piece of the wall as well, with a Pug 106 blended in. When the cops FINALLY arrived they took statement etc, makes thing easier for getting mopney back from insurance. Though, handbrake skids on motorway at 100mph, may want to phone someone else, unless u want to banned for the next 5,000,000 years.

Is the car a write off...definately, flat tyre and it could be written off. my car was and it wasnt that bad. see for ur self http://website.lineone.net/~graeme_hogge

When i had someone drive into the back of my first motor (shitty AX at the time) they accepted full blame, her insurance company didn't care about mods to my car, or tyres etc, they just asked me which bodyshop i'd like it repaired in. The car was writen-off so they offered me ?600 which i got up to ?700 plus i got to keep the car. When i first had the accedent i phoned my insurance company because i have legal cover with them, but i didn't need it in the end, but when i went to re-new my insurance i was told i had lost my no-claims, so i had to provide them the recipet from the other insurance company to show they had paid me and that it wasn't an on-going claim.

yup i had to do that... i claimed on my ins then gave my ins co a cheque from his ins co for the full amount... this reinstated my ncd... best to leave it to a law person to do it like i did....
