View Full Version : GSi Brakes
Can anybody tell me the difference between the standard brakes on a MK1, 1.2 nova and the ones on a GSi. Are they better or is it just the servo that makes the difference?

same size diameter (234mm). twice as thick (20mm rather than 10mm).
But imo just as bad.
Get some 16v ATE disc's. straight swap an a lot better. (254mm, 25mm thick)
Any difference in the calipers?

i really dont know what all the fuss is about the brakes on a 1.2 as standard even a 1.3 sr, they really arnt that bad, its just that you have to put quite a bit of pedel pressure in, I have no problems with my 1.2 brakes and i dont fanny around either!
Yes the ATE stuff is better but not that necessary unless you are a trackday feend....

seriously they are crap, when you got a full car an need to break hard at speed nothing happens.
I went from gsi to ATE 16v brakes and yes they are a lot better. The only moan i would have about mine is that they fade quite easily :?
Drilled and grooved disks on ATE calipers i think is the way forward.

I would get some decent pads, when I was running ATE's with green stuff pads and drilled discs I got the brakes that hot that the wheels nuts came loose. There was not fade whatsoever.
Chris
Having drilled discs will help to dissipate the heat though, but i will prob try getting some decent pads. What do you think of ferodo? I had some on my 1.2 on standard brakes and they seemed very good. Do green stuff pads wear quite quickly?
