rite here it is i want to get twin 40s for my 1400sr and a high lift cam but was told a 1600 head would be better and alot cheaper. so is this a good idea as its going in to the garage next month to get the twin webers and want to get the cam/or head done at the same time but is it a hard job to fit the 1600 head.if anyone could help i'd be greatful

1.4sr engine is the easiest engine to mod, well simple dont go pay no garage to do anything!

Save your money and do it yourself, then u can spend the money saved on more mods (or insurance for the mods!)

If you get stuck just put a thread up in this forum, someone will be able to help you.

yea i aint paying a garage to do it my mate and me are having a bash at it so would it be better to get a 1.6 head or a kent cam for the 1400 head

A 1600 head would lower the already woefully low compression ratio. Use your 1400 head, or better still use a 1300 head because the ports are a better shape.
I'm sure someone will say use a 1200 head but, as I've found out, take the compression ratio above 10.5:1 and your starter motor and battery will hate you forever.

The 1.4 SR head has square inlet ports and the 1.6 head has round ports, the 1.6 head has bigger valves (I think) so if you decide to go for the 1.6 head you will need to get a different manifold for the weber 40's.

I'm not sure about the compression difference between the 2 heads, whether you'd need to get the 1.6 skimmed quite a bit or not.

Go for the 1.2 cylinder head, Put a 1.4 head gasket on. Compression will be very good & acceleration greatly improved. Get a 1200-1300 Inlet manifold or if possible irmscher original sport manifold & if your really lucky like me the twin 40 sport carbs too. Thats the plan. Should have around 100 BHP, But you will need to get it rolling roaded & set up properly.

read the bloody guide!

it says use a 1.2 head or 1.4SRi head - the 1.4sri head is better if your fitting 40's

the sri one wont drop compression as much as the 1.6 and u can get it machined down a bit to increase it slightly too

rembmer you'll need a 1.4SRi or 1.6 inlet manifold tho

Yeah thats basically my engine that guide!

so is it a straight forword job switching the 1.4 for a sri/gte head or is it real hard work

as long as your fitting 40's its just the same as fitting a 1.2 head

all bolts streight up

i put a 1.3sr head with a high lift cam and twin 40's on my 1.4 sr engine, it was quicker than my 1.6 for a day,but it spat three half conrods through the front and back of the block.well worth doing if you've got a new engine.

Oh no. Rob, U had my engine spec! Its only just been done. Did u rag the arse off it?
How much would that cost to fix?

No you wont need to change the fuel tank I shouldnt imagine. The only time you do that is if your changing the car from carb to injection etc.

I have a mechanical fuel pump & didnt change mine for that conversion.

Im about to try and fit a c14se head to my 14nv sr engine. I believe this will help as it has larger valves and a far better port shape. I want to keep the webber 32/34 carb tho, so I need an inlet manifold. Prob is as far as I know all the round ports engines used fuel injecton. Any suggestions?

got my twin 40's and one of them has been rebuilt and the other is totaly knackered and the local weber dealer is wanting about 200 quid to rebuild plus i've to buy the parts.so i was wanting to know how hard it is to rebuild one.
