Not idling

I have a 1.3 SR that I am working on as a project, with the intention of turning it into a track car. At the moment the engine is very jumpy, and does not like tick over. I have a had a look at the distributor cap, and it is knackered, could this be the problem?

the auto chokes on the peirburg carb is crap. bin it as soon as you can. if you going for a track car you'll want at least a webber on there. although i think 1.3 wont last very long giving it stick on a track.
the engine will need to be sound and have good oil pressure or you wil kill it.

I am taking the engine out, but I want to make sure it is running before selling it. It was the distributor that was faulty.
