ok ive fitted a std nova alternator and bottom bracket to my c16xe

i then attached a std nova top adjuster to the cylinder head and luckily for me it all lined up perfectly

with one exception

the alternator pulley seems more "inboard" than the crank pulley

as such the alternator belt seems to run at an angle between the two pulleys and its rubbing against the cam belt cover

it almost looks like the alternator is not taking into account the offset caused by the crank sensor wheel - the crank pulley is 5-10mm futher out compared to std 8v without crank sensor and the alternator is in the old position?

is there a different alternator or bracket for the engines with crank sensor? any one else have this issue?

cheers

If the belt doesn't come off at revs dont worry about it, this happens on 2.0 16v conversions, if you were to look at one you'll see the belt is on a inward angle and they sometimes hit the belt cover!

yeah i know exactly where your coming from. i also have the problem of the belt wearing into the crank sensor! i have killed one already!
what i have done : the 24mm nut on the alt pully does come undone if you stick a screwdriver through the fins inside the alternator, then you can put some washers/spacers behind it to move it out a little bit. its not much but it helps.
To combat the crank sensor i put washers behind the actual sensor to space it out that much more..bad idea i found out! after a week of it starting like crap i realised that it wasnt picking up the signal properly as i'd moved it too far away.. doh!
anyway, i've modified the bracket for the crank sensor now so all's well.

having a look on the epc shows that the later cars(ie crank sensor equipped models) have different alternators or different bottom brackets

i think i might get a new brush kit for the original compact alternator and get the proper vpulley from vaux

i had the multiv alternator that came with the engine fitted after changing the pulley to a v-belt by using the pulley off a normal delco alternator, however its a bit of a bodge as it doesnt sit streight as the locating key doesnt touch the pulley since its a different shape - it seems vaux sell the proper v-belt pulley for this alternator tho so if i can get one of those i might be in luck

Space out the alternator pully a few mm. I have done this a few times to get the belt 100%
Its imperative that the belt runs straight, especially when you are at high revs all the time....
