Ok,

last question i promise :)

Since taking my engine out of me nova (1992 1.4SR) i decided to check which gearbox i had assuming it was the CR version, the haynes manual and supplementry info in the back just confused me. I had a look through the forums but couldnt understand one of the replies in one of the posts. Ok enough of the ramberling, here's the numbers i found on it:

a big F10 - to the left of theat F5 W 1471, and lots of numbers to the left of that, i was expecting CR on it somewhere or was this just being dumb, so is it a CR or not or do i need to look somewhere else?

Cheers

Two ways to tell:

The first is most simple. If you can't go above 100mph (maximum revs)in 4th then it is CR. If you can push onto around 130mph without hitting max revsits a WR box .

Secondly, on the end of the box, on one of the flat surfaces facing the NS wheel there should be some numbers stamped. You will have to clean alot to find them. Should be a C in there somewhere.

it'll say n the stamp ..... W 394 = wide ratio with 3.94 final drive.

on top of the box in a big stamp under selector it will have F10 or F13.

finally managed to get over to garage to check it and it reads:
2 512 - C394

I take it that means it is close ration ( being C ) with a 3.94 final drive? if so i take it thats good for acelaration?

cheers

yeah like u say its close ratio with a 3.94 fd.

2nd best gearbox combination from nova's for acceleration.

a 4.18 fd will give it a bit more but you'll find it not a great deal of difference.
