temp gauge help

My nova had a 2.0 16v conversion when I bought it but the temperature gauge does not work. The reason for this is that the radiator has no wires coming from it so just wondering how I could wire one up? Dont know much about it but the clocks I have are the 1400SR clocks i think, got 6 dials on them so is it just a case of running a wire from the clocks to the bit on the radiator where something is meant to plug in or is it meant to go via the ecu? Also the fan aint automatic just now so am i able to do this as well?
