I wouldn't touch the screw on the AFM if i were you, it'll just make the setup worse. It may be that it could give a VERY small increase in performance (un-noticable), but i'd only do it if you have it on a machine giving out readings of the mixture.
lmfao turning the screw!! what magical screw is this then??

the screw on the air flow meter as said. if you have any other suggestions then share them! 8)
Like snowface said, read the link!!

One thing it says is loosen the 2 BOLTS on the AFM. If you loosen them, it will make the springs on the inside less compressed and the AFM 'door' will open easier when you open the throttle. Loosen them too much though and it will make things worse.
GTE's and GSi's are 100bhp standard, but obviously mileage will have knocked that figure down. A free mod=advance the ignition timing. The engine will run abit more 'lumpy' but will be quicker. After time though it can do damage to the cylinderder head, so be warned!
No desent mods to increase bhp are cheap tbh mate. To start off with, just try a K&N/piper air filter and a good full exhaust system. Should make it feel abit more responsive.

have you actually done this yourself??
and where abouts is this co screw??
1.) Yes and the difference in tension in the afm 'door' is noticeable, however the gains are not (obviously)
2.) The CO screw is covered by a rubber plug that has to be removed with a screw driver. It's on the side of the AFM. The fact that you don't know where it is and it sounds like your being a cocky, sarcy bastard just shows your lack of knowledge.

you want to turn the black disk with the spring in it ANTI-clockwsie 3 notches
i dont see why im helping you with the way you have spoken to me but praps its just cos im a bludi nice chap
lmfao turning the screw!! what magical screw is this then??
Do these sound like the words of someone, 1)-not trying to be sarcy, 2)knows where the CO screw is themselves anyway?!
And briscoe2004, i wouldn't mess about with the CO screw if i were you. You'll probably only end up having it reset at your MOT emissions test. If you know exactly how much and what direction to turn it then maybe give it a go, but otherwise don't bother.
first off, girls behave!!!!

how do you plan to advance the ign timing of an ECU controlled setup?
as dan well knows if you advance the "dizzy" on a 1.t it does naff all to the actual timing as the ecu is always doing its thang instead.
if he had a 1.4 coil, dizzy tec on there then yes changing the timing would work, but to be honest not that much to notice.
Sorry, meant advance the dizzy. On mine, it does make a noticeable difference. Mine was running quite 'lumpy' and now i've setup the dizzy properly it idle's a lot smoother but low end power has definatly gone down.
The 1.6 lump is very tuneable, several people on this site have heavily modded 1.6s, for example Dan has his at around 140bhp running 14.5 sec 1/4 miles (the simliar to a 2.0 16v valver nova) plus he has the benefit of retaining the handling.
Start with air filter (panel is better but enlarge the air inlet to the air box) + full system
Then theres the suspension set up and the brakes can be binned in favour of Astra/Cav 16v brakes set up (calipers + discs + pads) which are a straight swop - this is a very cheap mod usually between ?30-?60.
