im looking for the close ratio box that will fit on the 2.0 8v engine

ive got the wide ratio one on there at the mo and its crap. i went to vauxhall and they said that the astra gte 2.0 16v f20 gearbox is close ratio and i have one of these at home. i was just wondering how you tell if its a cr box. or what to tell the scrappy man to look for

on the f10/f13/f15 it is stamped (very lightly, take a wire brush when looking for it) on the bottom of the 5th gear casing, you will be able to see it by looking through the passenger side at the end of the box, it's to the left of the drive shaft, below the end plate

the F20 is a 355FD and CR cluster - this is fixed and all F20's have these specs

F16's which will also fit came in a variety of specs with the closest being CR cluster with 3.94 final drive afaik

f20 is a good box as is a CR with 374fd, cr394 and cr418 imo are far to short for normal driving and would only be suited for track use

(70mph in a cr418 is 5000rpm)

i have a photo of the stamping somewhere - ill see if it can find it

so my f20 would be ideal for road and track use then. and stronger too :D

if you could find that pic mate it would be handy.

There was a gearbox identification guide on www.vauxnova.co.uk

but because the guy hasn't got a nova anymore, he gets rid of the site and all the guides.

Pointless, it was really useful, told you what all the letters and numbers in the code meant
