What would a standard SR and a SRi manage to the gallon?

Also does tuning seriously affect economy

cheers

my 1.4 sr does 64 miles to ?10

with a stright through xust and Peco BB4 back box

I used to get more than thit with my twin carbs, cam and headwork on my 1400.

Driving sensibly i used to pull around 70-75miles to ?10

Nailing it i managed around 45-60miles to ?10

my SRi will do 100 miles to 10 quid on the motorway at about 85mph
round down booting it everywhere about 60 miles or so
chelles SR will also do roughly the same, both engines pretty much standard

you lot always go on about how many miles you can go on ?10.

petrol prices can be up to 10p or more difference depending on where you are in the country.

why not say how many litres instead of how many pounds?

p.s. i get about 260 miles on 35 litres.

yes it will affect fuel consumption

your driving style affects economy mainly

ive had a 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 16v and average 40mpg on all of them pretty much all the time

my daily drive is about 50-60miles and 30of those are motorway the other 30 city and/or "fast" driving

my reasoning is that i dont drive flat out everywhere, even when driving fast along backroads etc where as with the 1.0 and 1.2 i was flat out all the time and the 1.4 somewhere inbetween, simply becuase the more powerful engine can go just as quickly as the smaller unit without as much throttle

im very very rarely at WOT in the 1.6, slightly more in the 1.4 and there all the bloody time in the 1.0 and 1.2

obviously if i drove the 1600 flat out all the time i'd use a stack more petrol, but ive never had an average fuel consumption figure below 35mpg

because its a better relation to what people acctually do and saves trying to work it out.

i get 45 miles to a tenner if im driving normally. ive had it a lot lower too but thats on my 2.1 so its to be expected

tuning your engine can make it more efficient in a lot of cases.

Indeed, I've had over 40mpg cruising on the motorway in my nova, partially from leaning the mixture back and cause i was mincing. that said at WOT I've got as low as 12mpg :(

My 1.4MPi (std apart form filter) nova can muster about 300-320 on a full tank.

?10 of fuel at 98p per litre,( super unleaded ect: ) will get me about 250miles on my bike

have not tried it in the car yet, as fuel gauge has never been passed 3/4 of a tank

any car will drink fuel if you boot it all the time, you wont notice much difference on fuel between a 1.2 and the 1.4's mate TBH as you wont drive them as hard

well my SR is running really lean so it drinks the petrol :|

i fink about 40mpg tbh??

Snowface

if its running lean that means there is too much air in the mixture.

But you may be compensating for the loss of power caused by this by putting your foot down harder, thus causing more fuel to be used.

i went to look at a 1.spi tonight wasn't happy with it

oh well i'll have to keep looking

i have till next friday to get a car :?

Where i live petrol was 83.9 a litre now its gone down to 75.9 So a big difference in price what means more miles to Gallon I can do about 42 MPG if i coast around in 4th round town

Stuart

just because fuel drops in price, it dosent mean you get more MPG lmao

you get more MP? ;)

if i get 28mpg i feel lucky :)

tuning a car is technically making it more efficient. so if your not driving on the loud pedal very heavily then you'll be running V efficent and therefore get more mpg.

eg dans T40'd car. its mega fast etc, but if you drive it like a granny its more efficient than my fecking omega!!!

Matt Nova

cambridge is it possible to get efficenicy from a SR on T40's ?

Paul
20-01-05, 12:16 PM
Boro Nova, yes it is.

SR on T40's are suprisingly efficient, unless you floor it.

Matt Nova
20-01-05, 12:17 PM
how bad is it if you floor it?

Paul

Remember you dont drive sensibly for x amount of miles, then drive it hard for X amount of miles it's mixed.

But an average full tank you could get anywhere from 150-280miles.

Matt Nova
20-01-05, 12:25 PM
150 miles from a full tank thats awful :o

Stuart
20-01-05, 12:30 PM
but it was probably a fun 150 miles lol

we dove from angelsey to FOD (whole length of wales and across a bit) and i think we "only" used 1/2 - 2/3rds of a tank. i was driving gentlyish (appart form off roundabouts as i got to play in dans car lol)

if you stay off the main jets, which is easy to do if you just pottering about etc, you can get a hell of a lot out of a tank.

so it seems to be worth it then in most peoples opinions

what about single carbs? is it 32/34 ?

Paul
20-01-05, 12:49 PM
Single carbs are poor in my experience.

I had 32/34 carb on my engine and then i changed to twin 40s on excatly the same engine.

And with twin carbs the average petrol consumption was almost the same when driving sensibly.

And when you nailed it, it didnt half move compared to the wsingle carb.

My opinion is T40's all the way.

By the way it was a 1400

i sold my old car a renault laguna 2 litre injection cos it was a petrol Gobbler like 23 Mpg I hope my nova does at least 35 ;\ or i aint gonna be a happy camper:(

Gunzi

In my mildly tuned E16SE I can get 220 miles outta ?20 but usually ?10 will take me 90-100 miles depending on how much I decided to floor it.
I use 5th gear @ 30-35 mph around town, and it doesn't complain! Super economy!

Snowface
20-01-05, 03:17 PM
you use more petrol if you put your engine under load at low rev's.

Gunzi
20-01-05, 03:26 PM
I thought the more revs the more petrol / air into the engine? I don't ever use full throttle in 5th unless I'm on the m'way at higher revs!
It doesn't moan like it would if I had it at 20mph in 5th.

Snowface
20-01-05, 03:29 PM
actually i suppose on an F13 cr its is justlike being in 4th on my F10 w/r so i guess thats fine, i use fourth in town at around 30mph because of the torque i got down there.

5th gear on a w/r box would not be so good at 30mph.

Matt Nova
20-01-05, 05:09 PM
everyone is pretty much saying the same thing take it easy and its not bad

boot it and watch the needle drop lol

Snowface
20-01-05, 05:31 PM
yeah, like when mad_rick gets his turbo on the road when he puts his foot down the fuel needle will also be seen dropping lol.

Matt Nova
20-01-05, 05:37 PM
but like people have said when you get more power you don't have to rag it as it has more power so in theory you are using less petrol
