Hello all.

Was having a chat with somebody about throttle bodies or a set of carbs for ma nova. I was thinking of getting a set of webers then he suggested using Motorbike throttle bodies as it would be alot cheaper than getting the jenvey ones. Like getting 4 individual ones of say a Suzuki 600 or whatever. He said u'd have to get a megasquirt ECU (1 that you make up yourself) as the standard 1 wouldnt accept them.

he said the best way to attach them would be to chop the inlet manifold in half, just after the injectors then use some silicon tubing to join the throttle bodies to the inlet manifold. U'd havre to make a bracket to supoport them like and sort the linkages out but in theory i guess it could work right?

Does anybody have any views/advice on this or would i be wasting my cash on somethin that might not work??

Cheers Guys

to be honset mate, if you need top ask you probably won't be able to do it. no offence to youbut you need to order the ecu from the state's then assemble it. get all the sensor's for various parts of the engine, make a look for it all, then map it all yourself, you won't be ableto take it to a tuner as they would never of heard of megasquirt.

mounting the throttles is the easy part.

have a look on mig, there was a thread about it a whileago. i think the biketo get them from is a gsxr, not sure whick one though. (i think the 750 has 40mm bodies)

umm doing it with the inlet manifold like that is a big of a bad bodge and also you need to ocnsiber the fact that with TB's (be it bike or jenveys) peak power will be at a sky high RPM due to less inlet restriction than a 32mm choke that you'd use in a webber setup.

if you know your gonna be driving/wanting power at 7.25K and beyond then yeah its a good call. but id do the manifold differently. EG i wouldnt use the regular inlet and cut it. id get an inlet similar to that of a dcoe one made with the bike carbs mountable to that with some sort of flange. if its done in ally its gonna be firly straight forward to ahve tigged up etc.

to be fair saying "bike TB's" are a cheap option is really really wrong lol. an easier more reliable etc route is 40mm dcoe tyep webbers or dellotoes

yeah was thinking it would be a firly massive job setting it all up. didnt realise that throttle bodies only worked best so high, just thought they were a better all round mod.

was 1 of those crazy ideas i guess that will neva really happen......

Carbs it is then!! cheers...

Check out retro cars magazine from last month - they have a good stroy on exactly this topic. There is a company in the uk that are doing this very successfully - their contact details are in the mag.

Cheers,
