i got a corsa sri 1.4 16v 1995. want to drop in a 1.6 16v gsi lump. anybody know anything about this.
will i need to change the ecu, radiator, gearbox etc.
ive been told keeping the 1.4 will give me a quicker o-60, is this true but wot about the rest.
also anyone know about how to turbo the gsi engine thanks all help appreciated

why woudl a smaller engine with less power provide a better 0-60?

unless one has a CR box and the other a WR box

anyway i guess if they are both ecotec X1xXE engines then you can probably just keep the 1400 loom and swap out the ecu for the 1600 one

if its a c16xe you will defo need to swap out the loom

im just saying wot i have been told by the fitters in my garage, and they told me it would give better off the mark performance but a smaller top end of wot the actual gsi lump is able to do.

they sound like lemons to me

0 - 60 on a corsa sport 1.4 16v in 10.5 seconds

gsi is less than that surely

both good engines seen 1.4 valvers on throttle bodies around 130 bhp before which would be very fast for a 1.4 engine :D

im just saying wot i have been told by 2 ex-vauxhall fitters.
i was going for throttle bodies on the 1.6, and maybe turbo conversion.
read in total vauxhall there was a gsi that done 0-60 in 6.35 with a throttl body conversion.
Also thinking of race cams, even though it will idle like a mutha fucka.

throttle bodies will provide about 150bhp on their own (sbd claim 160ish with their off the shelf kit but ive heard these figures can be a bit optimistic)

any decent cams require pocketed pistons

and theres a good few folk on here with carbs/multithrottles and highlift/duration cams and they idle fine

180+bhp is possible with cams pistons etc

dont bother with the turbo unless your going to spend a shed load on it as otherwise its just not gonna be any good, either unreliable or not very powerful

SBD's claim isnt optimistic. If you read the small print it states that it is dependant on the exhaust manifold and cam timing/use of verniers.

im just saying i'd heard that it was optimistic, power figures vary like the wind and are dependant on so many factors

what i find strange is how they quote 160bhp for the tb kits but only 140 for their 45 dellorto kits, makes me wonder how much of that 20bhp is true and how much is down to them wanting you to buy the more expensive kits...

ive seen a few 1.616v rally cars running carbs and it would seem that if there was an easy extra 10-20bhp to be had then they'd be running multithrottles
