rite was on the motorway last nite n thort fuk it got a bit of fuel n try n get me top speed out of me 1.2i nova. well my gob hit the ground wen i stuggled to get 2 100mph. had to near enough limit it in 4 gear to get it there wasnt impressed at all :(
me carb 1.2 was fukin mint wud get to 100mph easy as fuk no probs (ture speedo isnt accurate at this speed) but me new 1 is in much better condition but the engine is shit!
so desided at about 98mph that a sr 1.4 on webers will be the next engine after all the cars been sorted and i can afford it! :D

In a 1.2 you should be happy with 90mph.

98 is plenty for a 1.2i, 44bhp, book figures only about 85mph.
Over 100mph is normally 1300/1400 territory, but carbed 1.2s are alrate and a lot better than the spi.

They should be alrate up to 100mph, its once you break a 100mph they start being miles off actual speed.

tut - why dont peeps apriciate the mpg on the ol' 1.2 spi's? wen i had my 1.2 sxi i was well chuffed wen i was getting hundreds of miles to fivers and tenners worth o' petrol.. i was at uni at the time, young, part time work - it was ideal. 100mph? bullet proof take-all-walleys-stick?40mpg+?
awesome engine.

Yep thats what they were made for, economy. They were never made to take 100mph

SPi's are efficient - 45mpg+ easy.

My saloon is carb (12ST) and that sucks. Tops out just over a ton. The hatch (12NV) was much quicker tho, acceleration and top speed, that had the needle bouncing around 120.

I think the clio is about 55bhp.
Ya don't really need to spend loads for a better engine, you can pick up a SR engine for about ?60 and fit it yourself. Still lowish insurance, but a lot quicker than 1.2i

my speedo is fairly accurate and when i had my 1.2 in i struggled to get past 80mph on the flat.

my mates 1.1 mk2 fezza would go faster.

my bro used to cruise at 100mph no probs in his 1.2 merit 5dr rust bucket. My first nova (of 7!!) had probs keeping up and around 100 used to get there but no torque at all!! tht was a k reg merit plus 1.2 spi i think.

havent had top end out of the valver yet. whats average topend in a 2ltr 16v??

:o :o that cannot be true, my mates got a 1.1 fiesta and its seriously slow, my 1.2 feels like a super car after a trip in the fiesta

if you can hit it off the limiter in 5th you wont be far off 150mph depending on what wheels you have, ive come close a few times

bet the dash was rattling, always used to do that on my 1.2 at 90mph

I can believe that; both mine were 1.2s, both carb, both 4 gears, but as I said one was slow as feck and the other was quick (or as quick as a 1.2 can be lol.... although just before I sold up, it *almost* kept up with a 1.4SR, and that was with a passenger).

i have had 120mph showing on the trusty clock in my SR, but was probably nearer 110/105mph. Pulls hard all the way to there, then just seems to stop accelerating as tho it has a rev-limiter :? i know it aint, but just seems a bit odd :?

it'll probably be where the power drops off an has no more go
