has anyone ever heard of this?

I hadn't until an old school friend txt me and we got chatting.

Seems her bf has brought one for 50 quid from friends of the family.

I know that there is a very rare Mk11 golf Rallye with a supercharged engine and *i think* 4x4, but the chances of finding one is hard enough, let alone one for ?50! they are proper rocking horse s hit these days

They did a couple of syncro's, all tho the 4x4 system is poo there pretty rare.

Is it a G60 syncro, if so you have yourself a car thats worth a lot more than ?50...

Get some more details, engine size spec etcetc

the mk2 golf syncro is a 1.8 carb i think, and is only available in 5 door...its very slow.

the mk2 golf rallye is only available in lhd, has a g60 1.8 supercharged engine, and has a wide arch kit as standard...but is also no rocket ship. i do know of someone who has put a vr6 engine in one though. he's had loads of probs with the 4wd system though, as its pretty poor.

i wouldn't say the rallye is that rare, but the syncro is.

there was also a mk3 golf 2.9 vr6 syncro with colour concept style trim, but we never got one in this country.

"1988 1.8 'Synchro' launched in UK with automatically switched four wheel drive system"

I think they had the 90bhp engine. And yeah, 5 doors. Typical golf....

My bad, I ment Rallye not G60 syncro lol... being dum.

They also did a Golf Country which is another 4x4 but TD, there pretty awesome.

As for the 4x4 system, I'm going off whats been said... So In reality, i've no idea as i've never actually come across one. lol

looks like a beast though.

They have the sole intention of restoring and selling on.

I had a jetta syncro with a friend about a year ago, payed ?50 for it aswell. Was damn slow but good fun.

We are now braking a golf rallye all parts available :D Though we are modding the engine and fitting it into a mint mk2 golf if anyone fancy a mint G60 :D Golf rallyes are damn slow! shame the engine didnt do the running gear any justice.

There goes my sales pitch.

the golf syncro system is not the same as audi quattro

even today the audis run longitudinally mounted engines with the quattro system (same idea as 4x4 cossie) and 4motion/syncro golfs have transverse mounted engines similar to cally/cav turbo setup

i gave ry the info by the way...i've since found out a bit more...apparantly there was the rallye, 8v syncro (so fuel injected not carb as i said above), the country, and the mega rare 16v limited.

yep, the golf mkII 4wd system isn't very good, and as pointed out below is not the same as the audi quattro system.

yep, the current generation vw cars are all whats called the haldez system, as is the audi a3/s3...its really not that good. its fwd unless the rear steps out. prob is that it creates even more understeer than a normal 4wd system, only way to drive them is like an old rally car...in other words intentially unsettle the rear with scandinavian flicks and the like.

the bigger audi's are constant 4wd i think...a la scooby. which is much much better...but scoob's still understeer loads :( unless you can afford one of the very very latest with a driver adjustable centre diff.
