........what time would be expected for a C20XE engined Nova to do 0-60 and 1/4 mile in?

Any times from anybody running T45 / 48 carbs, or bodies?

Or fully stripped out Nova's?

The reason I ask is 'cause I have just FULLY stripped mine, (sound deadening, dash, roof lining, all excess metal etc) and want to know what times I would be expecting when I put the valver engine in.

Also, which is considered better; carbs (probably 48mm) or bodies?

Thanks, Robin.

mine was a standard XE which ran (at york) 14.7's but when I wa stripped I managed a 14.4

0-60 time Chris?

Is it possible to get 5 seconds without putting a LET engine in?

Thanks, Rob

i ran a 5.6 0-60 at trax last year, that was standard apart from a set of cams, lighten flywheel an stripped out.
My 1/4 mile time was 14.5@98mph

My mates nova did a 5.6sec 0-60mph at the pod at pvs04, valver with twin 48's stripped think he even took the bonnet off at some stage!

you sure it wasnt silverstone he did his 0-60 at as they dont do that at pod?

i'd heard that removing bonnet slows you down due to the extra air resistance and turbulence....

removing the bonnet would dramatically increase wind resistence. the bonnet keeps the car, vaugely aerodynamic.

Removing the tailgate would help. (2 min job)

especially if the wind was blowing from behind (up to a certain speed) as the hollow insde of the car would act like a sail. in a way. only if there was a very very strong following wind lol

i did my quickest 1/4 mile time with the bonnet off on mine. I did half with it on an half with it off. All in all the ones with the bonnet off gave faster times

PMSL!

I can see it now; the future of the 1/4 mile run, cars with massive sails on top, maybe a skull and crossbone flag?

It will no longer be about the size of engines, or bhp, but about the size of your sail!!!

Hom much roughly are a set of 48mm carbs?

What would I need to fit them on the XE engine?

(I am not very up on carbs at all)

Rob77

I guess I will need one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=72205&item=7947287918&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Then is it just a case of getting the 48mm carbs?

why no try the car with its std injection first.???
anyway there is that circuit thingy on ebay that will give you about 20bhp & costs a fiver. if you buy 2 you won't need big carbs

BigRuss off this site did a 5.5s 0-60 with a 1.6.

that was his first go at sprints and he wheelspan abit at the start.

saying that his 1.6 8v was about as tuned as you could go N/A

:o Bloody hell thats fast for a 1.6!

Like you said though; he has a damn high spec list for that engine!!!

Any idea what bhp that thing produced?

:o Power to weight ratio etc!!!

What sort of time does your SR do 0 - 60 in mate?

I got a stripped Nova XE on 48's. I did few runs at pod end of last year and did 13.827
Go for throttle boddies if you can afford them. Wish i had now.

to get some 48s new an everything you need you'll be looking at about ?900, cheap if you go second hand

I been offered some 48's fitted for ?500. They any good on a standard xe engine?

Philsutton

i think 48s on a stanard engine are a bit over kill, but with some decent cams you should 200bhp

Austin_Nova16

On a standard XE, you wont need bigger than 45 carbs. I run them on mine with 38mm chokes, so 48's are overkill imho.

With a sripped out moter, with full S.D cage, perspex and composite seats etc, I ran a 13.9 at santa pod. (standard XE apart from the carbs)

Would deffo recommend fitting either carbs or TB's though, as they give such a dramatic improvement in power compared to satnadard injection.

I thought 48's would be an overkill, but dont the pistons need modding to run some decent cams?

Philsutton
14-01-05, 12:46 PM
i have cams which dont need the pistons modified but they are quite mild, if you go any more then you will need deep pocket pistons an solid lifters

It's difficult to say what your car will do. You can get a rough idea from asking people, but everyone has different driving styles and may not be as confident. Get down to pod on a quiet day and experiment with the car; changing gears at different revs, accelerating from the line at different revs, etc.

not sure on 0-60 times but my nova's 1/4 mile is 12.78s and my calibra 1/4 mile is 11.16s. i'm testing soon so i'll sort out 0-60 times.

^^^ what have you done to your 1.4 8v motor to get it to 149bhp? turbo?

NickWalliams

How come your 149bhp can do a 12.78? That is a very fast time.
