gte running trouble

the golden cylinder at the right hand end of the inlet manifold (think its EGR valve) makes my car tick over at 2000+ rpm,someone told me to take the t piece off the bottom of this and blank the valve and t piece off. after dong this its slowed right down but doestn run great. also with the egr valve and 2000+ rpm the idle screw even when all the way in had no affect, anyone got any ideas whats wrong?

valves prolly fucked

its the coasting air valve - its purpose is to let extra air into the engine on coast down, if its stuck open then i'd imagine this would happen

running far to lean and over advanced timing also makes that happen!
