ticking over problem

i have a 1.2 opel kadett push rod engine simalar to a 1l nova lump. i just put a new skimmed head with new reseated valves. the engine will start first touch and rev up fine but wen left idle it will splutter and cut out after6 or 7 seconds. is this carburetor prob like water? any help...

carb full of cr@p probably, give a clean with sum carb cleaner etc. try that, other than this, i dont no? :|
