View Full Version : Head Gasket gone
How much av u guys paid to get it fixed?
for a 1.2 merit
the gasket kit is about ?20, and about 2 hours work. I used to do them in the morning before work, until I found out the torque figures in the original Haynes book were wrong. I got thru 10 in a year!!!
ive heard it costs like ?200
A garage would charge that, but why don't you find someone local to do it for you.
A garage usually charges for a skim & bolts. They don't always get fitted.
i dont know n e one in this area
stick a post on here saying 'Help wanted in Bridlington Area'
i know for a fact theres no one in brid maybe hull or scarboro tho.
i paid ?288 for,
complete gasket set, spark plugs, head skim, 11 thou piston skim, crank reground, oil change, colant etc, including labour costs.
so, i take it that ?288 was a well good price?
i doubt mine will be tht much then im gunna av coolant an oil filter change
whts main reason 4 them goin
ask chris 16v if he will do it for you :D
yer i know i know hed do it for me but i crnt get it there i darent drive it 2 selby not while its takin all my water
im sure that if you come to an arrangement with him he will pick it up for you as they have a "A" frame :D
ps i have a spare un opened 1.2 head gasket ?5 if ya need it
head gaskets go because of the constant change in temperature they endure, hot/cold/hot/cold etc etc.
hot = exspanding
cold = shrinking
constants moment like this will cause the gasket itself to split.

water pump is the middle pulley for cambelt, they have a little hole in the casting which you can normally see the bearing thru, when the bearing goes water trickles out - hth
thnks all let my uncle find it seems to complicated for me.
does it sound like this as gone more thn my gasket going.
how much for a new pump
check e-bay, sumtimes new ones for as little as a fiver! i payed about ?100 for parts, fitting, labour etc. when mine knackered
so it does sound like water pump to u guys?

get the car compression tested mate, then u will kno if its head gasket or not. In my opinion a head gasket will be pretty much a full day job as things inevitably go wrong.
Mind u i took 3 weeks doin chelles cuz most days i cudnt be bothered doin it :oops:
yer thts gunna get sorted soon.
but theres gotta be another way of tellin cause u all must no when u can tell.
my oil and gone creamy thts wht i just crnt understand

chelles head gasket went, but the oil didnt go creamy, it depends where the gasket blows. Does it run on all 4 cylinders?? if so it may not be the gasket and the car may just be leaking water from somewhere
youd know if your water pump went, when my friends one went it leaked so much, you would save yourself alot of money doing a head gasket yourself as you can get a skim for around 20quid on a 8v vauxhall head. youd learn something too!
