sometimes when i start the car it just turns over for ages and to start it you need to floor the acceleretor, when it does eventually start it revs at about 3-400 rpm then shoots to 3000rpm and takes ages to come back down to normal, when it does this the car runs in limp mode

i have no engine management light in the car so i cant to the check, any ideas, cheers people :(

crank sensor has failed or not plugged in

get the ecu light fitted - its not hard

brown/blue from ecu loom to brown/white(if it was originally an injection car) or brown/yellow (if it was a carbed car) on back of clocks

u may have other fault codes that need sorting

I read that if the crank sensor has gone, the engine won't start at all. Or ave i read wrong.

bosch management wont start im sure

gm multec will after 5-10secs of cranking but it will limit revs to 4k

and the small block 16v's all run GM Multec

big blocks run bosch motronic or simtec if its a newer ecotec engine

The engines will run with the crank sensor failing, cause you can run them with the bottom pulley off

I'd get the light wired in then check, could also be a dirty ICV not helping things.

a 20xe will not start at all without a crank sensor afaikl

ive started mine a few times without the crank sensor attached and it takes an age of cranking but it will start

i found out where the crank sensor is but where is the icv? also can it be cleaned with carb cleaner?

its attached to the throttle body and a barsteward to get at if im not mistaken

if your crank sensor is faulty then dont piss around with the idle control valve until you replcace the crank sensor, its probably just the sensor thats causing the problems

ummmm how the hell can it limit to 4Krpm if the crank sensor has gone?

has it got a cam phase sensor that can give a rough reading?

how much am i looking at for a ner crank sensor, i can get a full engine, box, loom and ecu for ?80 if that would be more cost effective??

Aragorn

it has cam phase sensor yes (well at least my c16xe does)

where the hell can u get a 1.4 16v for ?80???

i'll buy the bloody engine and give u the crank sensor off it for free :p

dont ask!!! fast tho!!!

Aragorn

probably isnt much faster than a 1.6 16v tigra tho, and the 1.6 16v would handle better
