it works well... but a mk5 escort one is prefered now as it's a direct fit

any particular model of mk5?

what kinda power levels are the escort pumps rated too?

and how much work is required to fit the mpi vaux pump?

ive heard "trim it down" but dont know exactly what this means...

basically ive got a shit setup now and i dont wanna go spend money replacing it with another shit setup which is why im asking to be sure the spi tank with mpi pump will work as well as the external bosch pump on gte tank

hi Aragorn,

have you found any more info on this subject as i have the same problem?

was thinking of making a pickup to go in the tank and useing the cav gsi 2000 pump that came from the donor car,but not sure if this will work.

Cheers

every MPi pump is the same from corsa 1.0 12v to astra 1.6 16v to cally turbo, ie all the same part number so it doesnt matter where u get it from

and apparently the pump does fit with slight modifications, neil told me hes fitted a corsa gsi pump into his 1.2i tank without modifications so im trying to find out what exactly needs done to it to make it fit

just get a regular bog std bosch out of tank pump and fit it inline with the oulet of the tnk, that way the spi pump in the tank (i assume) will give a semi swil pot effect and you dont ahve to fanny about opening the tank up.

see its been bodged from day one and doing that would in my eyes be another bodge

if the spi pump cant flow enough fuel to meet the demands of the bosch item your just gonna create more problems and i really cant be arsed with that

people have fitted the mpi pumps to these tanks just fine, and the 8 bolts that holds the pump on isnt a big problem to remove

so all i need to know is what exact modifications are required to fit the pump?

my local cheap scrappy has 2 mk3 MPi astras so getting the pump isnt an issue, just need to find out what i need to do to fit it

get the intank pump and work it out then if no one can tell you. i mean i made a mondeo lift pump fit into a BMW tank without prior knowledge of either

That is EXACTLY the setup I'm running on my X16XE and it works wonderfully :D

its also the setup (all be it slightly different) the new transit runs. also how a M535 BMW uses a similar way etc.

just use it as a lift pump to help cut down on surge, and then it leaves your high pressure pump to get cool air etc round it.

i understand what your saying but my point is simply that its not designed as a low pressure, high flow lift pump - its designed as a medium pressure fuel injection pump

if that little pump cant flow the amount of fuel the bosch pump is trying to flow then both the little pump and the bosch pump will be under extra strain and this means more likely to fail

the bosch pumps are like hens teeth up here - mine sounds like its on its last legs and ive never seen one in the scrappy in the last 18 months and they are ~?100 new, the mpi pumps however are much more common as they are fitted to every mp vaux from corsas thru to callys

if vaux trusted that pump on cally turbos then i can trust it for my 16xe

if its dry tomorrow i'll try n get a pump from scrappy and see what i can sort out

ok then, bypass the "medium flow pump" (although its pretty much the same as the lift pump)

and get an external pump from somewhere NEW as you'll only be replacing the scrappy one soon. i cant see a decent pump being much more than ?50

even look in tweek/rally design at the facet injection pumps if you feel fancy lol

escort mk5... 1.4-cosworth... all same.. direct fit into nova tank

i'm running a 500bhp fse cosworth pump on my 1.6i  in a 1.2i tank

thats one inefficient pump if it needs 500bhp to run it ;) lmao
