if your 1.2 is carb then it will be a straight swap

why not use a 1.4 or 1.6 engine?

thought the 1300 was better than the 1400?! was thinking about a 1.6 but then it comes to wiring the thing up! how hard is this to do and what is actually wired up!?

Try a 1.4 single point from an Astra with a weber 32/34 carb and a good cam, match it with a GTE Manifold and a tasty system and you'll have a good wee boost from 1200 power without adding too much to the insurance. Alternatively, just stick a 13sr carb on the engine you have and tune it.

the 1.4 spi engine is the 2nd worst engine you can get in a Nova (after the 1.2i).

a 1.3sr engine is a good starting point for fiture mods and is easier to 'mod' than an injection model.

lol only 1.3 owners say that

Wouldn't have thought the 1.6 would require any extra wiring; as you're ditching the injection system (and thus I'm assuming most of the wiring?) for T40s?

Run a mile from c14nz engine. I ave one in my astra and it is really low power. Can't be tuned at all, may as well put the weber on a 1.3 or 1.4. Which would also give lower tax than a 1.6.
I would go with 1.3SR engine, as GT-dub said, go Nova sport style. Twin 40ed 1300.

bit off topic so i apologise, you all talk about the 1400 spi being rubbish (c14nz) is this the same as in the 1.4 Sri or is the the c14se engine?

back on topic... i have a 1400 SR and its quick, almost standard at the mo but they are good, i hear they are better if u put the 1300 head on them tho so y not give it a go

the 1.4 spi only makes 60bhp

1.4 sri is more around 75 - 80 i finks

they are the same bottom end, but the head is totaly different, the multipoint has bigger valves and better port shapes as standard than the SPi and SR variety 8)

how much are carbs etc

twin weber 40's (only) go for around ?100 on ebay + other stuff depending on how much you can find second hand will cost anywhere between ?200-?500 + rolling road set up.

try here to see the new prices: www.tuning.co.uk

1.4spi 60bhp
1.4sr 72bhp
1.4sri 82bhp

if you put a 1.3, or better still a 1.2, head on a 1.4sr block and use a 1.3 inlet with pierburg (or 40's) then that will be around 79bhp (and 85bhp for 40's).

those are only rough figures. add a good cam and a bit of head work you will see 100bhp.

Ok, so the 1400 is shxte. Whats the difference in the Spi ansd the Sr engines? I've an ported spi head, race cam and solid lifters. Should i keep it or put the rest on a 1300 SR engine, or just use the 1300 head on the 1400 bottem end or what? P.S. My 1200i manages 100mph on 16inch wheers and 3 passangers, nippy as fukk too!!

if your happy with ur spi head then keep it.

why not use a 1.4 or 1.6 engine? perhaps he's not old enough to get a good insurance quote.

recommend stick to 1.0-1.4 in your first year or so of driving.
