I own a standard Nova GTE. The engine runs perfectly normal (idles at 1000rpm) but quite often has a tendency to idle at 3000 - 4000rpm for no apparent reason. I've tried changing the throttle body, ECU, EGR etc. But it keeps on doing it. Any ideas - it is driving me mad!?

Idle air valve or maybe your distributer timing is over advanced.

It sounds like throttle position sensor, Its the small black box thing on the back of the throttle body. It is connected to the throttle spindle, i had the same problem on my gte. I got a brand new one and it solved the problem but cost me just short of 50 notes from vauxhall! I would try one off a gte from the breakers first, but remember some gte's come with siemans ecu's and some come with bosch, they may have different make sensors, but just check the part numbers on the units match up. Good luck.
