hi yes i borrowed an amp meter off a friend and i tested it on my car because it keeps duying and its pi**ing me off now its too cold to be getting the charger out all the time.

http://www.placeyourbids.co.uk/amp.jpg

#1 i tested it with both the - & + wires connected and i got the reading 12.66

#2 then i tested it between the + and the + wire with them disconnected from each other. and got the reading 12.67

#3 then i tested it like #1 but with my system running and i got a reading between 12.40 - 12.60

does this all sound right the the gurus on here or is there something wrong

i still need to test it with my alarm armed will do that now

and reply with info.[/b]

Do you mean a voltmeter, them readings look like voltages to me. Is that with the engine running, or just the ignition on. If the engine is running then its way to low, you should get about 14.4v with the engine running, and about 12.8v with the engine off.

Them readings are fine with the engine off.

Yep, should be around 14.4v with the alternator on, with a standard alternator. Is the belt slipping.
The alternator may just be on its way out.

Most diesel cars have a decent sized alternator.
