In my experience 40mm is enought on standards. I do live in Ireland so the roads are much worse than in the UK but I lowered my first Nova 60mm on standard shocks that were only about 2 months old and it took me 3 weeks to wreck the back ones and 2 more weeks to wreck the front ones. The were genuine GM ones aswell. In the long run a shock and spring set is better value and better performance.

although running -60's on std shocks can cause failure the main issue is that the the shocks are operating almost at the end of their travel which means the damping settings at that area are totally wrong and u end up with a shite badly damped ride

if your on about dropping it 60mm, i would go for a shock and spring package! like its been said, it aint too expensive for a good complete package
