Good 6x9's

Ok, hi. My mate has recently bought himself a nice little Escort 1.8si, I know it's not a Nova but he's looking for some 6x9's for the back as it came with the parcel-shelf pre-holed.

Now, he doesn't know much about I.C.E but pretends he does, i.e. thinks companies like Pioneer are as good as it gets. But I'm looking to help him out and pick him up a nice set of 6x9's to be un-amped for now (I know it's not ideal but its cash permitting for now, 17y/o wage and all that).

Anything around the ?50 to ?60 mark if possible. He likes the bass and volume, and judging by what he had in his old car Sound quality aint something he listens for, but I do so no crap please. Just generally bassy and decent speakers on a budget if you get what I mean.

alright mate have you had a look on ebay you should be able to pick some decent ones up cheap off there ie alpine jvc kenwood

also i have my 6x9's un amped and there fine but i do have a decent set of componants amped up

What 6x9's are you running. I'm after particularly bassy ones so to him they sound better. Any idea?

ive got jbl there nothing special

the best ones ive seen\heard ar audio bahn with the detatchable tweeter

i always recomend audio bahn or rockford fosgate

Hmm, my ex put some in her cav and they sounded very bassy, but in my nova they sounded crap. Alpine do a nice set of 3way 6x9s which you can pick up for as little as ?30 which give good bass and sound quality direct from HU. I'll also go with Epo on the Rockford Fostgate 6x9s, but don't know what current prices are like for them.

un-amped, i'd always go for 3way pioneers. they have a better range than most and less distortion in the lower frequency.
amped, either RF or alpine.

tell your mate tho, if he's gonna spend that sort of ?, cover em up. if he aint gonna cover em he may as well just get a ?20 pair from argos or summat. big brand 6x9s on show attract the scum an you'll have a brick thro the rear screen in no time.

i use jbls's as with most of my mates and can get them for ?30

Halfrauds have them for ?50 offer price - which is the normal price everywhere else :wink:

Bassjunkies currently have them for ?40.

CAS are a good shop, my mate just saved over ?200 on a new Pioneer Head unit from them.

Alpines are good, great sound quality but from personal experience I've found their cheaper stuff to be a bit fragile at volume. Not a great fan of JBL stuff; but I'll agree Infinty are good especially for the prices you pay (but not from halfrauds lol)
