View Full Version : Idle @ 2200rpm????

Ive just swapped my ceased GTE engine for a new GTE engine, its all good but theres an idle problem which leaves it running at 2200rpm?

The bloke i bought the engine off said when he rebuilt it he removed the throttle restricter. Would this cause the problem and can it be solved easily or does it require some expert attention? the idle screw is fully in and the idle control valve doesnt make any difference if adjusted.

umm when he said "the restriction was removed" does he mean the wedge on the butterfly. in which case i think he didnt fill in the holes left by the screws. hence the 2200 idle

yeah sounds right to me. have a look at your old engines throttle boddy and you will see the wedge as said above. take the pipe off the one in your car and have a look at the same think (the throttle butterfly) if he has just removed this wedge then there will be 2 4mm holes in the plate. you need to get these filled somehow of just refit your old throttle boddy

sound like the most likely cause to me too... it'll be allowing more air in, effectivly opening the throttle even when it is actually closed, only solution i can think of off the top of my head would be to get another TB unless you can get hold of another butterfly.... probably easier and just as cheap to get the TB tho. sorry fella

and im sure bluetack would witstand the engine vacuum

u could fit 2 countersunk screws/bolts and small nuts to the holes, make sure they are done up tight and with some threadlock on them then file down the excess thread

will be a small protrusion but not anywhere near as big an obstruction as the std wedge
