What would be an ideal nova to start off with either a 1.0l, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4

It has to be:

Cheap to Insure
Cheap to Tax
And have no sunroof

I know fenix had some problems converting his 1.0l to a 1.4 spec at first, Due to various things IIRC. Eventually tho, he was running a redtop So its not really an issue.

In honesty I was looking at a sunroofless 1.2, Internal spec isnt really a problem as i've got a yummy Cobra suzuka sat in ma room.

not an antibies 1.2 lol

try a 1.2 flair if you want a MK2 shell

id go for the sri\sr that way your running top spec yet still keeping the cheap tax and cheaper insurance

Its virtually imposs to find an sr or sri without a sunroof tho fella, Or i would of. Same as a GSI i wouldnt mind one of them but Bloody sunroof's.

In case your wondering, A sunroof weights and its an arse to fit a cage with one in... also with it being glass, Some peeps may moan, and if i did roll it... I dont fancy the extra glass hitting me.

1.2 or 1.3 would be a good compromise

1.0 would be fine...

all shells are the same...

just get a solid non sunroof petrol shell

fenix had problems with pipes and wires etc.... but you will be remaking all of yours?

1.0 would be fine...

all shells are the same...

apart from the gte gsi as they use thicker steel in the engne bay. but its pointless if your going to seam weld it anyway

GT-Dub

that was my thoughts exactly, so any small engined Non sunroof will suffice then.

I've got a mate whos giving me a sheet of steel to cut up into tiny little strenghting bits if so be it.

did anybody make a template of the strengthing kit's?

if your not bothered about colour, pick a funny colour one up, mines burgandy but it's spotless (due to it's lack of chav appeal most likely)

As it's hard to find GOOD examples

still looks good imo

When i first got mine, i'd never seen a Nova that colour. Dont think it appealed to many people. Now with the work i've done it really stands out, and i'll never change the colour!

ahh, yours is original colour !? looks nice.

Mine looks really good in real life. It just looks rank when it gets dirty !

the un popular colour ones tend to be less abused and owned by grandads :-) (both in my case)

Philsutton
18-12-04, 09:36 PM
i think you will find that cars owned by old people are abused, it just tends to be the clutch that takes a battering

Nick
18-12-04, 09:40 PM
i'd rather replace a clutch that panels,whole engines e.t.c

mine was perfect anyways, not ALL old people are sh1t at driving

Philsutton
18-12-04, 09:46 PM
yeah i no thats a good thing. There is a guy on the next street to me that we call mr clutch, when he is parking up the engine is at about 5000rpm an smoke everywhere and he drives like that all the time lol

Nick
18-12-04, 09:48 PM
yes you've got a point tho !

i live on a posh old persons place, so we have hundreds of "mr clutch's" lol.

someone woman redlines her honda Jazz everytime she menouvers in her drive, poor thing.

lol

too true phil - know of an old fogies car due for its second clutch and it feels like the box is dead too ( or not far off) in 25,000 miles :S

lol, Gotta love the old Biddy drivers. I shat it when an old woman in a civic was doing a three point turn, thought she was going to charge at me or somthing... Kept peering at her in case she dropped the clutch and wheelspun in my direction. :o

Scary old peeps, Get a 1.0l automatic Dam you!!!

Nick
19-12-04, 09:17 PM
no really, it's burgandy :-)

i'l give you the paint code from the Vin plate if you reaaaly insit ?

vauxhall burgandy/red

it's a little darker than the vibrant pic

Jack
19-12-04, 09:54 PM
Ahh... must be a little darker in real view then, just looks exactly like the colour on both mine :)

But gotta say it does look good, nice n tidy :)

Nick
19-12-04, 09:55 PM
cheers mate, it's a good un !

just needs tidying up when i can be arsed to neaten all the wiring e.t.c !

GT-Dub
19-12-04, 10:00 PM
Anyway Biatch's back to the Topic lol

Nick
19-12-04, 10:02 PM
yes....

as i said, grab a burgandy 1.2carb and your away !

lets face it, if you run a 1.4sr/1.6 gsi engine in it , you'd switch to twin carbs anyways so the lack of loom and wiring in a 1.2 carb doesn't matter.

GT-Dub
19-12-04, 10:08 PM
its going on Small Block XE... Hopefully...

Nick
19-12-04, 10:11 PM
oh ok then

buy a 1.4SRi

it has the stronger shell, same as a GSi, plus it has a loom, eletrics, fuel pump , fuel tank/.lines.

unfortunatly they probably have a sunroof and most of them will be futher mucked.

a 1.4 xe or a 1.6 ?

GT-Dub
19-12-04, 10:19 PM
Yeah u got it mate, Many sr's etc are fooked. Where as a 1.2i or 1.2 or whatever won't be as well Fucked in the essence of the word.

Not sure, prop 1.4xe

Nick
19-12-04, 10:21 PM
well if your doing everything from scratch then get a 1.2 carb !

if your looking for a cheap way to pop a c14Xe in then get an injection as it makes live a whole lot easier.

a c14xe probably doesn't need welding in the engine bay, altho it depends on what spoec you want to run it to ?

DrivingSpanner
19-12-04, 10:25 PM
i've got a white 1.2 carb thats pritty strong shell wise with a little rust on rear arches for sale, sunroof tho!!! cant have the blue car with NO sunroof tho cause its ganna be a monter now!!!

GT-Dub
20-12-04, 03:23 PM

Jack
20-12-04, 04:15 PM

GT-Dub
20-12-04, 07:25 PM
ha ha ha ha...

Thats a good call Epo... Still Fenix has done it so i don't wana tread on his toasties.

Plus, I don't actually like them lol...

Jack
20-12-04, 07:59 PM
lol I think I'm the only person left who likes the saloons. Or will admit to it at least.

Where's Mark

As for extra weight tho... that boot doesn't weigh as much as you'd think.

GT-Dub
20-12-04, 08:38 PM
Check it in the haynes fella, Whats the kerb weight for say a Base 1.2 and a Base 1.2 Saloon. Bet its about 20kg more.

epo
20-12-04, 08:43 PM
yeah but a few fiber glass pannels polycarb windows should help bring it down

camebridge knows how much a lot of the nova stuff weighs iirc
