Hi guys,

I have acquired a Nova 1.3 SR and am hoping to drop a bigger engine into it and use it on the track for a bit of fun. How hard is it to fit a 2.0 L? What work is required for this? Any help would be great.

alright mate welcome to NL

the 2.0 16v conversion is fairly simple if you can weld etc your self

you need to seam weld all of the engine bay for added strength
you will need conversion engine mounts to mount the 2.0
you will need nova gte 22 spline driveshafts and mk2 1.6 cav inner cv joints
also needed is a gte/gsi petrol tank and fuel pump

after that you can mate the looms together and run all the extras you need and you should be done

If I decided to fit a 1.6 into it, what sort of stuff would be needed for this?

to fit a 1.6 would involve

engine and tank and pump as your 1.3 will be carbed

engine mounts are all the same and you can use the same driveshafts

but you should upgrade the brakes ^^^same goes for a 2 litre

go for 2 litre ate brakes as the std ones are really bad

then you just have the loom and ecu to mate to the sr loom

lol electrics are not my strong point lol

This would be the first time I have undertaken an engine conversion. I take it the gearbox would need to be changed as well.....

There's a guide to fitting the 2.0 16v around somewhere (something like valvers.com?).

Of course don't forget there's always a the 2.0 8v (SEH preferably, think Cav SRi); little less power but cheaper to buy the unit itself and parts.

Does the 2.0 L 16V fit straight in or does it have to be modified in any way?

you have to drill the spot welds holding the drivers side engine mount on, lower it 35mm.

you will also have to get the second pully (powered steering) machined off as this fouls the inner arch,

also you will have to create a reses in the drivers side inner wing for the alternator

your going to have to seam weld the engine bay and also as novas dont run power steering the bottom pulley will need to be machined down to get rid of the power steering pump belt part. This will foul the inner arch if you dont do this, also you need to do cut out for the alternater as that will foul the inner arch as well.

Benji,

What engine do you suggest for a track car??
A small block engine that is modded, as the engine is small block it weighs a lot less so quicker through the corners.
Benjis is a 1400 on twin 40's, with uprated cam etc IIRC
Or a 1600 8v(GSI engine) on twin carbs.

And you keep in the lower tax bracket for a 1.4.

1600 16v on throttle bodies. or if your on a buget, 1600 8v on twin carbs
