Centre console fitting?

I've got a centre console and want to fit it to my nova, there are no holes in the carpet for the screws to fix to (like the one it came out of), is it a case of roughly guess it and cut a couple of holes to find the screw fixings or would it only be on the model it came from would have the screw fixings?

all the shells will have the fixins for them mate you just have to cut your carpet so that you can see them and thread wire etc through :lol:
