it was ace. good to meet some new people off here and to see some old faces again. had some good off's, and had a few good tussles. i got some vid's but 1 is 256mb long and the other 2 are 128mb long, so i'll have to figure out how to make them smaller before i put them up. after today i've decided to stick with my 1400 instead of moving up to a 1600 in the future. couldn't catch karl but i got past scott in his 2.0l 16v. also suprised a few people when i told them it was a 1400.

nice 1 benji. i've decided to keep my 1.3 till at least the Insurance runs out Next Nov. Got Uni coming up aswell so shouldn't spend a lot on car when it won't be used.

Try Winziping the movies. Might work. How long is the 256mb one?

benji
12-12-04, 08:39 PM
6 min's. i want to compress them so i cam upload them on my site. win zip's no good for that is it??

chers neil, after coming out the esses backward's i chased that astra turbo round the rest of the lap then lost it again at mcleans. brake's are warped, car need's washing aging now. probably leaveit till next year. and the lifters sound like they are gonna die at any moment. i used ?70 worth of fuel and cooked at least 2 of my tyre's, probably 4, they need a good looking at.

all in, it was a good day

i seriously need to get my engine done up.

i will be joining you all on as many tracks days this year as posible.

LOL nah it was good, his car out handles mine through the coners,100% spot on his coilovers made it fly through, and fair play to him(but i hadent done the track before)

Oh and i only had the rear shocks on,not full set up of the coilovers...

though i was quicker then the astra gsi turbo so im happy :P
hey ask chris,he was well impresst with my driving,so phil if you think your upto it bring it mate, lol

We timed a few laps too...

Benji 1.34 no passenger (sorry edit..with passenger)
Karl 1.38 no passenger though he may have gone faster later,we didn time it all day.

A orange and white race car(sorry no idea what it is as it kit car) benji you might know the one im on about mate..
It did a 1.12 lap :o

Oh and mine was 1.36 with passenger(i was being pushed by a festi all the way round he didnt like the fact i was quicker down the sraights)

So in all i loved the day,car felt ace..as i only fitted the rear shocks at 7.00pm the nigh before,i had no idea what they would be like, but i can say i was flyig roung that track..best day in a long time i carnt wait to do the nerburgring now..

Good evening all, i am not going to say too much as ive just got back from a 5 hour session at the pub! First thing me and edd (mk1 golf) did when we got back was go straight for a beer

Was an amazing day and dont think i will stop buzzing for another week, hows about next sundays track day anyone?

Car was yet again brilliant not a single problem all day apart from a new set of tyres, a lost set of mudflaps and a spin at 80 mph :o still no damage.

My fastest lap was 1.32, the same as edd in his mk1 golf. The 2 best races i had were with firstly the mk1 astra which was identical speed wise to mine then a half hour restle with the mi16 205! Turned out it had throttle bodies/diff etc so was happy i kept with it, top owner aswell

Neil, i p***ing myself laugthing every time i pasted the pit wall watching you guys egg me on, you made me rev it past 8000 rpm!

Top day! Karl

benji
12-12-04, 11:17 PM

scott.parker
12-12-04, 11:23 PM
yeah though you might have got a fast time latter in the day mate,as you wer flying round with your mate edd (who at one point almost set his car on fire.red hot manifold) top guy, three wheels most of the day,lol

Oh karl do you ahve any pics from today? not the ones of your cars :D

And did you see me pull up along side you on the A42..beep beep, lol trailler queen

lol please say that is in one of the vids

benji
13-12-04, 07:40 AM
chris was filming all day so he might of got that.

i know he got a vid of me coming in after a session and my engine sounded like a bag of nail's, on the last few lap's the lifter were complaining if i revved it over 7k and int he pit's they sounded fucked. so i filled it with oil and went back out :D didn't cure the problem, but it shut them up for a while, and i wasabouve 7k again

karl Rowntree
13-12-04, 01:35 PM
Well ive just woke up and realised i am 3 hours late for work and i feel like death so i wont be going in today  Every damn part of me hurts and i got cramp 4 times in the night! Guess i am not the spring chicken i used to be.

Really was a brilliant day and yet again i learnt loads about my own driving skills. Benji was well quick, i saw him coming up in my mirror on my out lap and thought i best get a move on! managed to get away but i got a little to confident and had a bad spin onto the grass. Some of the driving skills of the other cars there left a little to be desired i.e the the guy in the TR7 who WOULD NOT let me or edd past.

It was edds first track day and in a car we had just built so he really was enjoying it. LOL at his molten hot manifold and system!

Was really good to gauge our own cars against others, my bigest grin of the day was when i flashed the yellow GT porsche out of the way, not once but 5 times

Neil, me and the guy in the pug were having so much fun. There was nothing in it between us though mine had a little more on the straights and he had more on the bends. We kept taking it in turns to leed and try each others lines, he really was a top guy, along with many other drivers there that gave us alot of respect.

Benji, i was only joking about going again  Think i need to give the car a rest for awhile mate  I tell you what i am going to have to get busy on my escort because the nova isnt going to look so mint if i keep this up, the front end is covered in stone chips after yesturday! Oh well all in the name of fun.

LOL well it was more a case of me letting him through,i pulled of the line as he had more speed coming out of the bends,if i didnt i could see him hitting me (mad ass driver) ask chris he was in with me..and lets face it if i wanted to drive like the TR7 owner or the audi tt driver, then i would have just kept getting in his way,as i lost him on the straights every time.

Humm we shell see what happens once the front coilover bodys go on,i take it benji will be going to most if not all pvg evets, come on karl that guy in the sri turbo astra said to me,god mate yours is well fast what you done to it,i said fairly standard just full system clutch and filter..

I pushed him a bit and he got the back end in the mud on Redgate a few times, lol i did once he was in front of me,chris was in the car with me then made us both laugh,it sild out as i toched the mud :P

scott

karl Rowntree
13-12-04, 10:45 PM
respect where respect is due scott i think is the point

I had to work my arse off to get away from benji when he came up behind me and it was only when i was hitting the high notes i started pull away from him. To be honest i probably would of had more fun driving his car, i bet its awesome round the bends and at the end of the day its a 1.4 and that deserves a pat on the back for being anywhere near us

Karl

benji
13-12-04, 10:50 PM
cheers lads. i've watched the vid of me chasing you scott, and the difference on the straights is a hell of a lot, on the road i wouldn't get near you. the same applies to the astra turbo, on the corner's he was holding me up, but come to a straight and i was left behind. i think it's my tendancy to brake later than is phisicaly possible that keep's me on the pace

karl Rowntree
13-12-04, 11:18 PM
I think thats where your car is well suited to a track like donnington benji as there are only really 2 parts you can really get your foot fully to the floor. You had alot less weight to stop and you were probably carying less speed down the straights, combined with the weight difference around the craners etc its what makes your car so damn quick.

Alot of it is down to the type of track (is the car suited to it?) and the drivers abilitys (do they no the track)

If you do change your engine benji dont go for a 2L mate, just my opinion though mate

scott.parker

LOL nah it was good, his car out handles mine through the coners,100% spot on his coilovers made it fly through, and fair play to him(but i hadent done the track before)

That's what i said karl,i couldnt belive the difrence he had so much more speed through the corners then i could take through,as you know karl it's hard to keep the power on without lighting the fronts up too much, allso tomuch power i found through the croner just made more and more understeer..dont get me wrong im not dissrespecting benji's car or his driving,he's got more skill then me (as he sould he's been round more track then i ) and that car of his is spot on it was just so much quicker going into and exiting out of corners/bends..

Benji i hope you can sort them videos, would love to see them poperly mate,if you can do a copy, and your not working bring one to the mk meet,i will give you a replacement tape,etc..

Funny i have now defently got the track bug...im getting some mad ideas of making a track only car..

Nova with 1.6 16v on carbs,or TB's..hehe and a nice trailor..

 I wasnt having a dig scott, it just sounded as though you were making a few excuses along the way. Trust me, fitting your front shocks will probably make no difference to the way the car would go round donnington, its just the characteristics of a 2L nova. In my opinion you have a good set up now with just the rear sorted, as all i use on mine is a standard spax sport kit with coil spring 60mm rear springs. Its because the rear is so stiff that the back steps, its all about balancing the car on throttle.

Above is all just my opinion, everyone drives in there own way

Im sure the more tracks i do the more im going to learn about my car,and how far i can push it,and as i just put,im so tempted to spend more on just a car for track only.. :P

Did anyone get any pics of my car,or me going round the track?? the only one i have seen is this one that matt took..

Nice one benji, a set off slicks once up to temp will knock a hell of alot off your time.

Hi martin, i think we have quite a few track days coming up next year with the club so should be a great year. Your car would be perfect for donnington, ideal set up in my opinion.
