Some pics of the steering, ive used the original nova stuff and swapped the hubs over so they are on backwards an mounted the rack upside down to give some clearance on the sump.

As you can see i never got round to getting the axle cut down, instead im going to pull the arches over the wheels. Although the standard steelies do fit under with no trouble :D

very kool phil, th way you've done the steering is a very good idea indeed

"off topic"
what are those wheels on your sr they look wide

Philsutton
06-12-04, 08:57 PM
they are the same as on the V8 but with slicks on, not sure why i put them on the sr lmao. I'll agree with you on the fact that its a rust bucket, to be honest its about the most rusty nova ive worked on, good thing ive cut most of it out

burgo
06-12-04, 08:59 PM
where did you get them from phil as i may want a set

Philsutton
06-12-04, 09:01 PM
they are what the hot stock use, i got them off someone who races them. an i think he got them from donington park

The steering gear looks good i think. lets just hope it lets the engine in and it all works.

and the space frame at the back is getting there. but if your finished a wee grind and a lick off paint will stop the brown stuff lol

Philsutton
06-12-04, 09:11 PM
well my 2lt is being gay so this is on hold till after christmas at least. The next thing is to get the engine built back up an get it in an lined up so i can start on the frame for the front and for the prop tunnel.

oh an if you feel the need to donate parts feel free to give me lots of bits as funds are quite low being a student at that

burgo
06-12-04, 09:13 PM
what bits are you after phil and would you be able to get hold of another set of those wheels maybe ??

the angle of the steering rack arms look a bit dodgey mate, and when the engine is in they will be worse. good idea tho

That could be easily sorted, going to have to run some form of gear setup though to stop the stweering going the wrong way when you turn the steering wheel. Rick

since i have taken these photos i have altered the steerin slightly on it. I have the rack underneath the frame to give more room for the engine, although the way the sump is on the V8 means that it misses it just, and i have fitted the track rod ends in upside in the hubs which means that it all sits lower down out the way.

The bodykit is terrible, there's a light missing, no tires and huge holes - its awlful!

lol!

Its coming on mate. The police are going to love this one aren't they? Are the structural supports going to be enough? They look a bit lightweight for the kind of power you'll be running. Or does the box structure work like corigated card and it greater then the sum of its parts?

Keep it up!

Al

well some1's had fun with a grinder! you'll have funn with the trans tunnel!
I'm a little worried about where the steering rack is tho. and wont the frame be in the lay for fitting the engine? the engine will have to sit damn high and that rover aint exactly small!!!

Philsutton
07-12-04, 07:12 PM
well the engine is going to sit high an fairly far back so the frame isnt a problem, in fact i might be looking at reshaping the front window screen lol

well some1's had fun with a grinder!
oh you have no idea how much fun ive had

It needs a lot more support yet, it already has 21 meters of box section in it

Stanton

looks like a proper fucking bad boi so far!

wot v8 have u got? put a twin plenum inlet on it, bags of nitrous and your away!

dont pull the arches, put steelies on it m8 and change them every day after work as u smoke aaaaaalll the way home. proper sleeper

Philsutton
07-12-04, 09:06 PM
it was the single plenum 3.5 rover V8, i sold the injection system at the weekend for 140 and i shall be going on to either a single webber/holly 500 or quad 45s :D I do like the idea of the steelies though as it would look like a normal battered nova then

burgo
07-12-04, 09:08 PM
use cavvy steelies for on the road and keep the proper wide ones for on the track

Stanton
07-12-04, 09:19 PM
use steelys and save the money for cage, harness, tyres, fuel etc.....cos i rekon ull need it.

Fair Play mate. When i spoke to you at the sheffield meet and you were talking about this potential project, i didnt think you'd be arsed to do it. It coming along really well. I am most impressed with it.

Nice one.

PS. Anyone who says its looking good is talking out of their arse. It looks rubbish, like a stripped car with loads of metal bars welded in at random lol.

10-12-04, 03:33 PM
yes but it does look mad as we know what mechanicaly has been done so its still better than same complete cars if you ask me
